C++17 In Detail, a book that will move you from C++11/14 to C++17

Hi! Last year in August I've released my first self-published book. C++17 In Detail Available at Leanpub: https://leanpub.com/cpp17indetail Keeping up with the latest changes in the language is quite hard. C++ moves quite fast recently, and there are many exciting features added with each iteration. The book shows all the significant changes in the language and the Standard Library. The chapters are much easier to grasp than reading reference pages or the Standard itself. It's a great guide for any C++ developer who knows a little about C++11/14 and wants to move forward.…

What it does

In the maker’s words, at launch

It's a great guide for any C++ developer who knows a little about C++11/14 and wants to move forward. In August the book was 90% ready, and I worked since then to write the last chapters and improve the content. In March it reached finally the 100% status :) I would appreciate any feedback! You can also ask me about the publishing process.

    I built a small browser engine from scratch in C++Jan 2026 · github.com · ▲146

    Hi HN! Korean high school senior here, about to start CS in college. I built a browser engine from scratch in C++ to understand how browsers work. First time using C++, 8 weeks of development, lots of debugging—but it works! Features: - HTML parsing with error correction - CSS cascade and inheritance - Block/inline layout engine - Async image loading + caching - Link navigation + history Hardest parts: - String parsing(html, css) - Rendering - Image Caching & Layout Reflowing What I learned (beyond code): - Systematic debugging is crucial - Ship with known bugs rather than chase…

    I wrote a technical history book on LispFeb 2026 · berksoft.ca · ▲252

    The book page links to a blog post that explains how I got about it (and has a link to sample content), but the TL&DR is that I could not find a lot of books that were on "our" history _and_ were larded with technical details. So I set about writing one, and some five years later I'm happy to share the result. I think it's one of the few "computer history" books that has tons of code, but correct me if I'm wrong (I wrote this both to tell a story and to learn :-)). My favorite languages are Smalltalk and Lisp, but as an Emacs user, I've been using the latter for much longer and for my…

    C++ Compiler Support PageSep 2025 · cppstat.dev · ▲68

    Hi HN, I have created a webpage that displays all C++ features since C++20 in a simple, searchable table. It is intended to serve as a quick reference for C++ developers, whether as support for cross-platform development or simply to track the current support status out of curiosity. I created it as a simpler, more structured, and more up-to-date alternative to the cppreference compiler support site. Please note that the page intentionally does not list LWG and CWG papers. This might change as I am continually updating the site and trying out new ideas. Questions, feedback and suggestions…

    C/C++ Cheatsheet – a modern, practical reference for C and C++Jan 2026 · github.com · ▲10

    Hi HN, I’m the creator of C/C++ Cheatsheet — a modern, practical reference for both C and C++ developers. It includes concise snippet-style explanations of core language features, advanced topics like coroutines and constexpr, system programming sections, debugging tools, and useful project setups. You can explore it online at https://cppcheatsheet.com/. I built this to help both beginners and experienced engineers quickly find clear examples and explanations without digging through fragmented blogs or outdated docs. It’s open source, regularly maintained, and…

    Fast Random Library for C++172025 · github.com · ▲52

    Morning HN. Random number generation feels is a somewhat underrepresented topic in the C++ realm. There is a lot of questionable info about it found online and even the standard library is quite behind the times in terms of it's algorithms. It suffers from trying to accommodate sometimes impractical standard requirements and has several ways of getting significantly bad statistical results. This leaves a lot easily achievable performance & quality on the table. So, being a mathematician who mostly works with stochastic models and wants these models to run fast and well, I embarked on a…

    My platforming game written in C 892023 · zamfofex.neocities.org · ▲127

    I have been working on this game somewhat sparsely for the past three years or so. However, it is still in a very early stage, and there is a lot of work to do. One of my friends encouraged me to post about it here, since he felt people might find interesting how I don’t use any libraries for it. The game can be played on a browser by virtue of WebAssembly. There are native ports using either MiniFB or SDL2, but you have to build those yourself. I decided to write the game in C because I feel like it is a simple language that a lot of people can understand well enough, and I didn’t think I…
