I built this using React/Next.js. The parsing logic uses [library/custom regex]. Added Gemini API support so users can generate budget templates dynamically. No ads, just a tool.
CalPal launched on January 2, 2026 with 105 votes, #326 of 14,585 launches that month and more than 95% of that year's launches.
What it does
Most calculators give you answers but lose the context. CalPal is a literate calculator that combines a text editor with a calculation engine, letting your math tell a story. The standout feature is the BYOK AI Assistant (Gemini). It solves "Blank Page Syndrome"—just ask it to "Draft a travel budget" or "Estimate MVP costs," and it generates the line items instantly for you to tweak. It's 100% free, private (local-only data), and browser-based.
