I bought the paid version because it's fun, good practice, and you can make your own character packs to study what you've learned elsewhere. After a couple hours, I feel comfortable handwriting characters, and they no longer seem random.1 month edit: solo characters aren't always easy to define because a lot of characters are used in combination.
