CodeTime

Analyze your coding time

CodeTime launched on January 20, 2021 with 2 votes. The site was still online in September 2026, 5 years on.

What it does

Do you know how much time you really are programming every day? Welcome to use CodeTime to analyze your coding time!

Automatically track how long you spend coding, visualise habits by language and project, and export your raw editor data. Free plugins for VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf and every JetBrains IDE.

Code Time records per-minute coding activity reported by official editor plugins for Visual Studio Code and every JetBrains IDE. Sign in with GitHub or Google, install the plugin, and watch your dashboard fill in: daily distribution, language breakdown, per-workspace totals, and a calendar heatmap. Source code is never uploaded — only file paths, languages, and timestamps. Your raw events are exportable forever through the JSON API. Built for developers who want to understand their habits, attribute time to projects, or feed coding metrics into downstream tools. Compatible with VS Code, IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, WebStorm, GoLand, Rider, RubyMine, CLion, and the rest of the JetBrains family.…from codetime.dev

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
