In plain words

This project documents high-resolution stitched panoramic images of Iceland captured using thermal imaging technology. The creator combined multiple thermal camera shots to create panoramic views of the Icelandic landscape. The work showcases the aesthetic and technical possibilities of thermal photography for landscape documentation, presenting a different visual perspective of natural environments than conventional photography methods.

From the sources

A computer vision engineer by day and photographer by night, I never take the path most traveled, especially when it comes to imaging technology. Thermal cameras are one of the most interesting types of cameras, and while they are widely used in industrial, scientific, and military applications, they are largely untouched and unknown to the general public. These cameras require no external lighting — not even starlight — and can measure the temperature of every pixel they see from afar. That makes them excellent for spotting people or wildlife in the dark, inspecting heat loss from buildings, and in my case, hunting down geological activity. Iceland ranks as one of the topmost…from petapixel.com

Hey HN I’ve been experimenting with different image generation tools for months — but I kept running into the same problems: slow generation, repeated outputs, and limited artistic control. That’s why I built MAI-Image-1, Microsoft’s latest AI image generation model designed for creators, designers, and developers who need fast, realistic results without sacrificing flexibility. What makes MAI-Image-1 different: Ultra-realistic rendering — it accurately captures light, texture, and natural shadows. Lightning-fast generation — create detailed images in seconds. No style lock-in — experiment…

I wanted to record the aurora last weekend, but I only have a Blackmagic Design video camera which is clearly not made for this purpose. Recording a video of the night sky results in extreme noise to the point that you don't really see anything, so I wrote a tool to significantly reduce noise in such video recordings. Essentially it computes a moving average across video frames which significantly reduces the random sensor noise. This works because aurora changes very slowly, and it's roughly comparable to a long exposure time computed out of a video file where the individual frames have a…
