Editable Games

I made an animation programming language that you can type into a textarea. I make little games with it. Now other people can customize the games I make with it. I've been working on canvas language for 15 years now. Not very successful, but editable gifs turned out okay. Since it's my passion, I keep trying, and my latest is editable games - I'm not officially calling it that though. I've had some interest in advergames and this would allow designers to easily customize games for their clients - the hidden objects game being the best example for this, and the only one made specifically for…

In plain words

Editable Games is a platform for customizing browser-based games through an animation programming language that runs in a textarea. Users can modify existing games—including hidden object games—without coding expertise, then publish their versions as standalone JavaScript files. The tool targets game designers and advergame creators who want to quickly adapt games for clients. Games are interpreted at runtime and can be published to platforms like itch.io or personal websites.

Pick one, pop the hood, and make it yours. Swap the art, tweak the rules, redesign the levels. Then publish your version so everyone else can play it — and remix it too. Anything in the arcade. If you can play it, you can open it. New art, different rules, your own levels — it's all there. A short walkthrough of an actual game being cloned, edited, and republished — start to finish. This version has your fingerprints on it, not just your name on a save file. Make a version for your class, your Discord, your kid's birthday — something made for the ten people it's actually for. You start from something that already runs and already works. You're never staring at an…from playscl.com

    I made a web game called Almost Pong2022 · lessmilk.com · ▲1,135

Hi HN! I made many small web games in the past with Unity or Phaser. But this time I wanted to make something completely on my own. So I coded a basic game framework in plain JavaScript, and used it to make Almost Pong. This was a really fun project that taught me a lot about JavaScript, and I plan to make more minimalist games with this framework. Interesting fact: Almost Pong doesn't load any assets, all sprites and sounds are generated with code. Happy to answer questions, and please let me know if you have any feedback on the game. Thanks!

Show HN: Boardzilla, a framework for making web-based board games Tldr: We’ve made a framework for web-based board games. You can try out some games over at https://boardzilla.io, or you can take a look at https://docs.boardzilla.io to learn more about how to develop your own game. Source is available at https://github.com/boardzilla Hey y’all. My brother and I have made a framework for board games. During the pandemic we started to look at BGA but got discouraged by how old-fashioned the tools were and how cumbersome the development process was. We set out…

  • C# Game Engine with its own scripting language and IDEAug 2026 · github.com · ▲118

GitHub repo: https://github.com/ArcadeMakerSources/ArcadeMaker (first of all, i want to say that I made this project for fun and challenge. I always wanted to create my own language. This has no business goal or something.) So the project is a 2D game engine (MonoGame backend) inspired by GameMaker 8. It includes its own IDE (built with WinForms) and an interpreted programming language that I wrote myself. The language—definitely the biggest challenge in the project—is a simple dynamically typed language. When I started, I had zero knowledge of how to build something like…

  • Homegames. An open-source game platform I've been making for 8 yearsJul 2026 · homegames.io · ▲229

I'm making a platform for simple open source games you can play anywhere. Games are all just JavaScript classes and you can read the source of every game on the platform. I started working on initial "games" (mostly rendering tests) in 2018 and eventually built all of the platform stuff around it to make it easy to share games. There's also an in-browser editor available for you to make and publish games all from the browser. Would love some feedback on the games and studio features as well as the platform overall. All of the code is available at https://github.com/homegamesio

  • 2D Game engine and editor for Windows and Linux2022 · github.com · ▲121

Hello HN, Just wanted to show this little 2D game engine that I've been working on for some time (around 2 years on the editor part, longer on some of the components). It's quite full featured but obviously this a project of such magnitude already that the work never really ends. That being said it's definitely already at a point where games can made and published. The editor runs natively on Windows and Linux using Qt5. The games can run on both Win and Linux as well as on WASM with WebGL. Feature wise there's a bunch of the stuff you'd expect. Audio, graphics, scripting,…
