FiveW – Stay current on AI in 5 minutes a day

Hey HN, I'm Ethan. I was spending 2 hours every morning across HN, Twitter, and newsletters trying to keep up with AI for my startup. So over the past few months, my co-founder Thor and I built FiveW to distill the latest AI developments relevant to us, in a 5 minute briefing. FiveW does three things: 1. Personalized morning briefing -- talk with an agent on onboarding, and get a daily briefing tailored to your interests that you can deep dive on. 2. Curated AI news feed -- surfaces the most important AI stories of the day from 100+ sources, in one place 3. Live market signals -- BTC, gold,…

In plain words

FiveW is an AI news aggregation service designed for people who need to stay informed about AI developments without spending hours browsing multiple sources. It delivers a personalized daily briefing in five minutes, curated from over 100 sources, and includes a dedicated news feed of the day's most important AI stories. The platform also displays live market signals like cryptocurrency prices and prediction odds alongside news content. Users customize their briefing through an onboarding conversation with an agent to receive updates aligned with their interests.

A01 is a news reader where you define your own algorithm in plain English. For example, you can prompt it with: • "I want to follow recent AI startups and their first funding rounds.” • "I want updates on regulation changes and enforcement actions around stablecoins.” Every few hours, the backend fetches new articles, embeds them, and scores each one against your prompt. Only the most relevant pieces show up. No engagement metrics, trending bait, or “you might also like” filler. I built this because I every time I opened up Twitter or LinkedIn to stay informed on something, but always ended…

    A self-hosted AI that turns Hacker News into a daily briefingJul 2026 · github.com · ▲5

Hi everyone, I read HN every day, but there was always more great content than I had time to read. I know there are already several HN summarizers on GitHub, and I tried some of them. They just didn't fit the workflow I wanted, so I decided to build my own. My project is a self-hosted app that automatically fetches top stories, summarizes them with AI, translates them into your preferred language, and prepares a personalized daily briefing in a nice customizable UI while you sleep. Maybe I'm not the only one who wanted this kind of workflow. I'd love to hear your thoughts, especially on what…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.

  • Hey HN, Henry from Cactus here! We previously released Cactus Needle, a 14MB agentic LLM for tool call, device use, and structured extraction for phones, wearables, smart homes, small robots and microcontrollers. We got really great feedback here, and have now incorporated the suggestions to release Needle 2. The whole model is a single 14MB binary that runs a full session in 28MB of RAM; 45m parameters at 2bit compression. Needle hits 500 tokens/sec decode speed on a Raspberry Pi 5, sits between 400-1,500 tokens/sec on VR devices like Meta Quest 3S and Apple Vision Pro, and ranges…
