Free PDF redactor that runs client-side
I recently needed to verify past employment and to do so I was going to upload paystubs from a previous employer, however I didn't want to share my salary in that role. I did a quick search online and most sites required sign-up or weren't clear about document privacy. I conceded and signed up for a free trial of Adobe Acrobat so I could use their PDF redaction feature. I figured there should be a dead simple way of doing this that's private, so I decided to create it myself. What this does is rasterize each page to an image with your redactions burned in, then it rebuilds the PDF so the…
What it does
In the maker’s words, at launch
I recently needed to verify past employment and to do so I was going to upload paystubs from a previous employer, however I didn't want to share my salary in that role. I conceded and signed up for a free trial of Adobe Acrobat so I could use their PDF redaction feature. I figured there should be a dead simple way of doing this that's private, so I decided to create it myself. What this does is rasterize each page to an image with your redactions burned in, then it rebuilds the PDF so the text layer is permanently destroyed and not just covered up and easily retrievable. I welcome any and all feedback as this is my first live tool, thanks!

Hey everyone, I recently built a free and open-source tool that lets you manually redact PDFs and images right in your browser—no sign-ups, no watermarks. I also added an AI-powered auto-redaction feature to detect and remove sensitive info. Since this part uses external processing (OCR + AI), there are usage limits: you can auto-redact up to 3 single-page PDFs or images for free each day. Higher usage and multi-page support require a paid account. Right now, it works great for removing sensitive details like names, addresses, and emails, but I’d love to get your thoughts: • What redaction…

- PAPDF Assembler – client-side PDF editing2018 · ▲25
Here's a neat hack I made recently to do basic PDF editing directly in a browser—without having to upload anything to a server. I was initially looking for a way to do simple PDF modification (extracting pages, merging, and adding page numbers). There are some good server-side tools for this (QPDF, PDFTk, PDFBox, iText, Hummus), but for better speed and privacy I really wanted a 100% client-side solution. There are a few good JavaScript PDF libraries for reading and displaying PDFs (pdf.js) and creating PDFs from scratch (jsPDF, PDFKit), but I couldn't find any for editing existing PDFs. So,…

Hi HN, I built RedactMyPDF.com after struggling to manually redact a large legal PDF, and I found that existing tools were either expensive or clunky. RedactMyPDF uses AI (Gemini) + OCR + human review to make redaction fast but safe: Auto-detects sensitive info based on document context (names, addresses, IDs, etc.) Full control to accept, reject, or add redactions Works on scanned PDFs (OCR with Tesseract) Secure & GDPR-compliant (AES-256, EU storage, one-click deletion) Irreversible blackouts + metadata removal Audit logs (CSV export for compliance) Try it here: www.redactmypdf.com Thanks!

Hi HN, I built Eigendrum, a web tool that solves the 2D wave equation for arbitrary shapes so you can hear what they sound like as drums. How it works: * Solves -∇²u = λu using finite element analysis (Kφ = λMφ) on a triangle mesh. * Validated to <0.1% error against closed-form solutions for circles (Bessel zeros) and rectangles. * Sound model factors in strike location, Rayleigh damping, and mallet width. * Includes Kac drums I & II to demonstrate identical sound spectra from different geometries. * No frameworks, build steps, or dependencies. Repo and tests:…

With social media and now AI, its important to keep the indie web alive. There are many people who write frequently. Blogosphere tries to highlight them by fetching the recent posts from personal blogs across many categories. There are two versions: Minimal (HN-inspired, fast, static): https://text.blogosphere.app/ Non-minimal: https://blogosphere.app/ If you don't find your blog (or your favorite ones), please add them. I will review and approve it.
