Git Shooter
Turn your GitHub contribution into a space shooter
What it does
Git Shooter doesn’t solve any real problem—and that’s intentional. It’s a fun experiment that turns your GitHub contribution graph into a retro pixel space shooter battlefield. Enter your GitHub username, play through your contributions, destroy blocks, and score points. You can use the web app for a one-time experience or run it via a GitHub Action for scheduled generation. Built purely for fun and nostalgia 🚀

I built a GitHub repository template which automates the process of configuring a new repository to take web page screenshots using GitHub Actions. You can try this out at https://github.com/simonw/shot-scraper-template Use the https://github.com/simonw/shot-scraper-template/generate interface to create a new repository using that template, and paste the URL that you want to take screenshots of in as the "description" field. The new repository will then configure itself using GitHub Actions, take the screenshot and save it back to the repo!

Hey HN, This is a little web game called Epic Dev Battles of History. It takes public GitHub contribution stats (like commit counts, streaks, activity levels) and uses them to simulate a retro arcade-style battle between two profiles. You can enter your GitHub username and challenge a friend or colleague, try the online matchmaking, or pick one of the pre-loaded profiles as an opponent. After the battle, it shows a breakdown of the stats used. It started as a fun side-project to visualize GitHub activity in a different way. You can play it live here:…

Hey HN! I wanted to share something I built over the last few weeks: isometric.nyc is a massive isometric pixel art map of NYC, built with nano banana and coding agents. I didn't write a single line of code. Of course no-code doesn't mean no-engineering. This project took a lot more manual labor than I'd hoped! I wrote a deep dive on the workflow and some thoughts about the future of AI coding and creativity: http://cannoneyed.com/projects/isometric-nyc
