Gore – A Doom Engine Port in Go

Hi HN, I’ve been working on Gore – a port of the classic Doom engine written in pure Go, based on a ccgo C-to-Go translation of Doom Generic. It loads original WAD files, uses a software renderer (no SDL or CGO, or Go dependencies outside the standard library). Still has a bit of unsafe code that I'm trying to get rid of, and various other caveats. In the examples is a terminal-based renderer, which is entertaining, even though it's very hard to play with terminal-style input/output. The goal is a clean, cross-platform, Go-native take on the Doom engine – fun to hack on, easy to read,…

A port of DOOM that runs (almost) entirely on the GPU2024 · github.com · ▲8

I've been recently working on porting standard C library functions to work on the GPU https://libc.llvm.org/gpu/. A colleague of mine suggested using it to run DOOM, so that's what I did. It runs on both AMD and NVIDIA GPUs and it is completely playable. This works by targeting C code directly for the GPU via cross-compilation in clang, looks something like this https://godbolt.org/z/hh44a6vKr. The LLVM C library will provide the headers, C library functions, and the kernel that calls the main function, so we only need to compile the DOOM source code…

    Hypatia 0.2, a 2D adventure game engine2015 · ▲191

Hello, Hacker News! My name is Lillian (see: http://about.lillian.link/), and I just released version 0.2 of my MIT-licensed game engine, Hypatia(http://lillian-lemmer.github.io/hypatia/). Hypatia is a game engine for single player 2D action adventure games. You can use it to make a game like Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons. Hypatia is aimed at non-programmers and programmers alike. I'm seeking any sort of feedback. Hypatia supports FreeBSD first, but has great support for just about any platform…

    Doom (1993) Playable in a GitHub ReadmeJan 2026 · github.com · ▲5

I just had this really fun idea of making a playable version of DOOM on my GitHub profile after building "Doom" in a QR code last year (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43729683) and I finally stopped procrastinating to try and build it. DoomMe is DOOM E1M1 map that can run on GitHub's markdown viewer which doesn't support javascript, web assembly or even iframes it works with a stateless engine with a capture of every possible position in the map (with 64 unit distance) captured in 4 directions and stitched together using graph logic with 8000+ WebP images and markdown…

Today marks ten years, 3653 consecutive days, of running at least one mile every day under the USRSA rules [1]. To celebrate, I built an interactive dashboard that turns a decade of GPX files into charts you can explore. Running has truly changed my life: I've made lifelong friends, explored beautiful places, and more importantly invested into my own health and fitness, which I'm starting to see the positive benefits as I get older. The stack is pretty simple: a NextJS app, with a Postgres database to keep all my running data, and all the stats are pre-computed and cached in Redis, so I…

Made this website as an exercise in vibe-coding and GCP. It was posted about a few times around the internet, on sites like Morning Brew (https://www.morningbrew.com/issues/business-buzzkill), MetaFilter (https://www.metafilter.com/209703/Draw-A-Fish), boingboing.net, etc. I think it's cute! I built a basic CNN trained against penises and swastikas, and then anything that doesn't hit the 63% confidence score gets sent to a mod queue, a vibe-coded fish-tinder…
