GPT image editing, but for 3D models
Hey HN! I’m Zach one of the co-founders of Adam (https://www.adamcad.com). We're building AI-powered tools for CAD and 3D modeling [1]. We’ve recently been exploring a new way to bring GPT-style image editing directly into 3D model generation and are excited to showcase this in our web-app today. We’re calling it creative mode and are intrigued by the fun use cases this could create by making 3D generation more conversational! For example you can put a prompt in such as “an elephant” then follow it up by “have it ride a skateboard” and it preserves the context, identity and…
In plain words
Adam is an AI-powered tool for CAD and 3D modeling that enables conversational, iterative 3D generation through its creative mode feature. Users input text prompts describing objects, then refine them with follow-up commands while the system maintains consistency and context—for example, adding a skateboard to an elephant model. Designed for designers and makers prototyping creative assets or 3D-printable models, it offers an iterative approach to 3D creation through natural language interaction rather than traditional CAD workflows.

For example you can put a prompt in such as “an elephant” then follow it up by “have it ride a skateboard” and it preserves the context, identity and maintains consistency with the previous model. We believe this lends itself better to an iterative design process when prototyping creative 3D assets or models for printing. We’re offering everyone 10 free generations to start (ramping up soon!). Here’s a short video explaining how it works: https://www.loom.com/share/cf9ab91375374a4f93d6cc89619a043b We’d also love you to try our parametric mode (free!) which uses LLMs to create a conversational interface for solid modeling as touched on in a recent HN thread [2]. We are leveraging the code generation capabilities of these models to generate OpenSCAD code (an open-source script based CAD) and are surfacing the variables as sliders the user can toggle to adjust their design. We hope this can give a glimpse into what it could be like to “vibe-CAD”. We will soon be releasing our results on Will Patrick's Text to CAD eval [3] and adding B-rep compatible export! We’d love to hear what you think and where we should take this next :) [1]https://x.com/zachdive/status/1882858765613228287 [2]https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43774990 [3]https://willpatrick.xyz/technology/2025/04/23/teaching-llms-...

I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.

Hey HN, Henry from Cactus here! We previously released Cactus Needle, a 14MB agentic LLM for tool call, device use, and structured extraction for phones, wearables, smart homes, small robots and microcontrollers. We got really great feedback here, and have now incorporated the suggestions to release Needle 2. The whole model is a single 14MB binary that runs a full session in 28MB of RAM; 45m parameters at 2bit compression. Needle hits 500 tokens/sec decode speed on a Raspberry Pi 5, sits between 400-1,500 tokens/sec on VR devices like Meta Quest 3S and Apple Vision Pro, and ranges…

Hey HN! Pilots everywhere are required to keep a logbook of all their flying hours, aircraft, airports, and so on. Since I track everything digitally (some people still just use paper logbooks!), I put together some data visualizations and a few 3D globes to show my flying history. This globe is probably my favourite so far: https://jameshard.ing/pilot/globes/all If you’ve got ideas for other graphs or ways to show this kind of data, I’d love to hear them!

I was the main contributor to workout.lol, an open-source fitness app to easily build a workout routine. The project had traction (1.4k GitHub stars, 95 forks, ~20K visits/month), but was eventually sold due to video licensing hurdles. The new owner stopped maintaining it, and the repo went abandoned. Over the next 9 months, I sent 15 emails to try to save it : no replies. Feature requests & issues were ignored. The community was left with a "broken" tool let's say. I couldn't just let it die So I built the new version from scratch with the same open-source spirit, but a better…
