HEVCut – iPhone app to save iCloud storage by compressing videos

Hey HN! I created HEVCut, an iOS app that helps save iCloud storage by compressing videos into HEVC format with optimized metadata. It’s a straightforward solution for reducing video file sizes significantly (up to 50% or more), which speeds up load times and keeps quality high. I built it after struggling to manage my iCloud storage, especially with videos, and wanted something that didn’t rely on complex settings or third-party cloud services. How It Works: HEVCut performs local re-encoding to HEVC (H.265) while optimizing metadata. By default, it reduces resolution to Full HD for even…

I am a developer. I have been building stuff for the last 13 years. One common challenge in all my projects is compressing assets to make them as small as possible. I used to end up using online compressors, but this has a lot of privacy concerns. So, I finally set down for couple of weeks and built this simple app. I can just drag and drop assets in it and it shrinks them. It currently supports around 25 file types. I built a lot of iOS apps but this is the first time building a macOS app, so any feedback is welcome.

Hey HN! Previous CERN physicist turned hacker here. We've developed a way to make AI coding actually work by systematically identifying and fixing places where LLMs typically fail in full-stack development. Today we're launching as Lovable (previously gptengineer.app) since it's such a big change. The problem? AI writing code typically make small mistakes and then get stuck. Those who tried know the frustration. We fixed most of this by mapping out where LLMs fail in full-stack dev and engineering around those pitfalls with prompt chains. Thanks to this, in all comparisons I found with: v0,…

I wasn't quite sure if this qualified as "Show HN" given you can't really download it and try it out. However, dang said[0]: > If it's hardware or something that's not so easy to try out over the internet, find a different way to show how it actually works—a video, for example, or a detailed post with photos. Hopefully I did that? Additionally, I've put code and a detailed guide for the netboot computer management setup on GitHub: https://github.com/kentonv/lanparty Anyway, if this shouldn't have been Show HN, I apologize!
