I built an active community of trans people online

A year ago I surveyed the internet and noticed there was only one popular space for trans and gender-non-conforming people to meet; Lex. Lex is not well liked by its users. Its software feels heavy and it is full of cash grabs and anti-patterns. It was recently acquired and is sure to only become more hostile to its users as it turns towards profit generation. With this in mind I built t4t, an alternative specially designed for not only queer people, but specifically trans people. It is an extremely lightweight service. I built an active community of trans people online launched on January 23, 2025 with 484 votes, #43 of 6,141 launches that month and more than 99% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 1 year on.

    I realized that the PDF engines of modern desktop browsers (PDFium and PDF.js) support JavaScript with enough I/O primitives to make a basic game like Tetris. It was a bit tricky to find a union of features that work in both engines, but in the end it turns out that showing/hiding annotation "fields" works well to make monochrome pixels, and keyboard input can be achieved by typing in a text input box.
