Products that do what I built an active community of trans people online does
A year ago I surveyed the internet and noticed there was only one popular space for trans and gender-non-conforming people to meet; Lex. Lex is not well liked by its users. Its software feels heavy and it is full of cash grabs and anti-patterns. It was recently acquired and is sure to only become more hostile to its users as it turns towards profit generation. With this in mind I built t4t, an alternative specially designed for not only queer people, but specifically trans people. It is an extremely lightweight service. I built it with my most ideal stack: Flutter, Svelte, Supabase, Posthog.…

Heya HN, I've been working on a reddit-like platform as my primary side project for the last few years. Doing a (very) soft launch today, mainly because I want to use it to encourage discussion of alternatives. How non.io works: 1. Free to browse, paid to interact. 2. Minimum subscription is $2 (though you can choose more). I take $1 to run the servers, everything left gets split evenly between everything you upvote that month. It's a simple model, but I hope it's a better one than the freemium model we've been relying on for the last few years. Fundamentally I feel like any ad-supported…

Hi Hacker News! My name is Bea, I built a site called Libraria that uses GPT to do a few things 1. Let you spin up multiple assistants based on your own documents. You can make it public, private, or protected. It has its own subdomain and landing page. 2. Respond in full markdown always, so it can output images, links, code, and more 3. Let you upload articles on the fly within the Chat, so you can ask it questions 4. Make it embeddable in your site with one line of code 5. Let you update it for fun / with your branding 5. Enable syncing for any URLs you let us scrape, so that you can…

Hey there, First time posting on Hacker News in about 2 years! The reason I’m posting is that I thought I’d write about the product I’ve been building, in hopes it resonates with people. Why build yet another social app? Because I deleted almost all social media around 3/4 years ago as it was just net negative on my life. There was very little that was truly interesting, I didn’t care about looking good to other people and because of the ‘media’ and ads, the apps were all designed to make me spend too much time for what I was getting. I hated it and what it meant for people’s behaviour,…

A few days ago I saw this tweet from PG: https://twitter.com/paulg/status/1496549841912094733 ...and guessed it shouldn't be too hard to make a chrome extension to do this (I had never made a chrome extension before) So I took a stab at it - took me a bit over a day to make it, and it was fun to put together. I responded to his tweet with the link to the extension but I'm not sure if he would've seen it. edit: Looks like I missed the approval notification for the listing of this extension on the chrome store:…

Hello, HN. I'm a long-time lurker here and this is my first Show HN (be gentle). I created Glue which is best described as "Twitter meets Tumblr meets Medium" which is longer than just saying another Twitter alternative but IMO not 100% accurate. I launched Glue in mid '21 and have been slowly iterating on it since. Glue lets you share text, photos, video, audio, code snippets, quotes or break out into a long-form blog post. Posts on Glue are called "Drops". Glue in action: - My profile: https://glue.im/noah - Audio:…

It has been a while since I have shared my app, that I made to be able to practice my Danish while chatting with my grilfriend - I often used GPT to write as much as I can in Danish, and I replaced the words I didn't know with {Englis words in curly braces}. While this was great, it was rather annoying to type the prompt always, so I figured a GPT wrapper would work well here. Last time when I launched, it went viral! I was super happy (and grateful!) for all the feedback and excitement — but it also meant my tokens disappeared fast, and many people ended up trying an app that no longer…

Hi everyone, We built a quick experiment this weekend that allows you to use GPT4 to quickly generate shareable web apps that use the ChatGPT API. Here’s a video of me building an app similar to https://whatdoesthiscodedo.com/: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpvGd21V0u0 "What does this code do?" went to #1 on Hacker News a couple of months ago. The app takes a piece of code, asks GPT4 to analyze it and returns a simple, English description of the code. An app like this is super simple to build with MetaGPT. What other kinds of things can you build with this? *…

I run a weekly humorous newsletter about the tech industry/tech jobs called TechLoaf (https://www.techloaf.io/). After experimenting, A/B/C/D/E testing, etc I found that using the lowest, simplest landing page possible actually led me to gain thousands more followers and a much higher conversion. I don't even post content on the site - the content is only accessible through the newsletter itself (or links or search, but nobody does that). Part of me wonders how much of modern UI/UX is oversell, especially when explaining value proposition to an…

Hello I’m Aditya. Me and my co-founder are on a mission to eradicate social media addiction and loneliness off the earth. There’s no reason for us to turn to digital companions of any kind, or be in social isolation, when we can and should be having direct discussions with each other everyday. We're building FourthSpace as a solution to these issues. One of the biggest problems many people are dealing with right now which is preventing them from hanging out with others is the cost of going out, buying drinks, transportation, etc. We've built a beta version of a feature to solve this. If you…

Hi guys, For my startup at www.mithrin.ai which is about create AI Chatbot Agents for websites, I wanted to create some free tools to attract traffic to the site and decided to create specialized chatbots powered by LLMs, similar to OpenAI's Custom GPTs. I realized that by using gpt-4o-mini, I could create quite powerful alternatives to GPTs that are free to the public for a very small cost (given how cheap the model api cost is). I've employed some throttling to prevent abuse and to avoid being charged too much. Then I integrated this with my main service and allowed users to use the…

With the latest launch from Google I've added support for Gemma 3 270M, the speed for local LLM to TTS token time is incredible! This is an heavy obvious work in progress - any contributions or tips would be welcome. The idea is to have a fast moving edge model playground, and maybe have some utility (like the e reader) on the side.

Hi HN, I created a (realistic) fake tweet generator to make my mum believe I'm successful until I get there for real haha. Now I can proudly (not) show her Elon endorsed my SaaS! It's 100% free to use and I tried to make it as realistic as possible while being easy to use. There are already existing similar tools but I could not find one that automatically pre-fills data from a twitter username and that handles business accounts (square picture/gold badge/company picture) so I built it. I would love to hear your feedback or suggestions!

Hey HN! I've always been frustrated by having to follow people across 10 different platforms just to catch what they actually say. Lately I've quit following other media entirely and am just hanging out on twitter, but the amount of things I'm missing is vast, I'm sure. Recently I started playing with this new API from Parallel AI that let's you do super deep web research and collect tons of datapoints at once. Today I tried to solve my own problem and built Based People using the Task API. *Features:* - Finds and tracks public appearances – podcasts, conferences, congressional hearings,…

TLDR: I built a "quick and dirty " private social network for my friends, posted on Reddit and HN, got some interest so now have built it properly along with my brother. site link: https://intimost.com/login/ demo creds: [email protected] Demo123! Full version: I needed a social network where I can just send updates and nothing else. So I built it, my friends liked and now I have built it "for the world". Everything is private by default. - Text-only updates - No likes. Only views to acknowledge a post - [in development] Comments are private between the poster and…

Building integrations for TikTok, X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn got frustrating with how different every platform is with auth setup, rate limits, and media requirements. So we built Post for Me: one REST API that handles scheduling and publishing posts for TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Bluesky, and Threads. It's built for developers. You bring your own app credentials from the social platform, so you're in control of your data. There's no limitations on account connections, and pricing is based on usage (not some arbitrary limitations). We…
