I built an interactive live wind farm dashboard for Ireland
This dashboard is a personal project I've developed to visualize every wind farm's energy production across Ireland. I'm trying to break into software development/data analytics sector and I wanted to build a project to practice my coding. I wanted to build a novel project rather than following along to a basic YouTube video project and not really learn anything. I'm interested in the renewable energy sector and after browsing the web noticed there isn't any public data on real time wind energy production in Ireland. I took the task onto myself to attempt to build a dashboard that…

An interactive map showing live wind farm generation in Great Britain2023 · renewables-map.robinhawkes.com · ▲245GB Renewables Map an energy experiment created entirely in my free time (day job is visualisation at Octopus Energy). It's an interactive map showing live generation for major wind farms in Great Britain, showing what each wind farm is generating both now and in the past, and where that generation is physically located. Animated weather data is from WeatherLayers and shows current and historic wind conditions on the map, providing context to wind generation around the country. History mode allows you to go back in time and see wind generation and weather conditions for a particular date and…

Backlog – a public repository of real work problemsDec 2025 · worldsbacklog.com · ▲112AI has made building fast and cheap, but finding the right problems still feels hard. I built World’s Backlog (https://worldsbacklog.com ) to collect real problems directly from people working inside different industries. Contributors post workflow pain, others validate it, and builders can study severity, frequency, and willingness to pay before building anything. Would love feedback from builders and people who feel real pain at work.
I created this land use visualisation for the Netherlands2024 · koenvangilst.nl · ▲78Last weekend, I tried creating an original visualization of something on many minds in my home country the Netherlands: land use. Much of our discussion revolves around land use—housing crisis, sustainable farming, solar energy—it's all about the land. To illustrate this, I created a map where each hexagon represents 0.06% (26,647 hectares) of land in the Netherlands. The color indicates the type of land use.
My first software project – a website to set goals and track progress2024 · opus.cafe · ▲17Two years ago, I started building this site that allows people to document their learning and progress in real time. The idea is: as you learn new things, you document your progress piece by piece, creating a collection of failures, breakthroughs, and knowledge. Along the way, your friends can cheer you on, and the community can give you tips and feedback. Over time, we'll create a public collection on how different problems were solved. With each progress, the site prompts you to reflect on questions like, "If you could go back in time, what do you wish you had known?" This was my first web…
- UCUK Company Dashboard and Search (Lockdown Project)2020 · ▲8
Hi HN, https://companies.bx.tc My colleague and I put together this tool for easily searching UK company data. We run a few server side batches daily to extract data from various government sources before linking it all together in (what is now) a fairly large database. We're also using this project as a way to test out a new JS UI library we built (similar to Vue, but a bit faster) to see how it stands up in a real project. We'd love to hear your feedback and any ideas you have for how we can improve the dashboard! Thanks :)

Talanoa▲346Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
