I developed a website to find books similar to my kid's favorite

I built this ReactJS/Ruby on Rails single page web app out of personal need. My son wanted a book like “Curious George” but I didn’t have a good way to find one. The tool allows you to flip through pages of books for online previews.

In plain words

This is a web application that helps parents find children's books similar to their kids' favorites. Built with ReactJS and Ruby on Rails, it lets users browse books and flip through online previews to preview content. The creator developed it to solve the problem of finding books like "Curious George" for his son. It's designed for parents seeking recommendations for young readers.

I wanted to share a project that I've been working on designed to help young kids go from reading single words to reading whole books. My husband and I started spending a lot of time teaching our 5-year-old (Alex) to read because our school district is exclusively doing remote learning and I was skeptical that he could learn to read over Zoom. We used flashcards (which Alex found boring) and then combined them into sentences (which Alex found interesting). But the sentence approach requires a lot of arranging pieces of paper and remembering which words you are working on. So I developed…

  • Hi HN, I built Eigendrum, a web tool that solves the 2D wave equation for arbitrary shapes so you can hear what they sound like as drums. How it works: * Solves -∇²u = λu using finite element analysis (Kφ = λMφ) on a triangle mesh. * Validated to <0.1% error against closed-form solutions for circles (Bessel zeros) and rectangles. * Sound model factors in strike location, Rayleigh damping, and mallet width. * Includes Kac drums I & II to demonstrate identical sound spectra from different geometries. * No frameworks, build steps, or dependencies. Repo and tests:…
