I invented, built, and released a 360º Video Camera.
Greetings, HN! I have created a new kind of 360º video camera with GPS and live streaming capabilities. A device like this has never existed in this form factor or price point before. After launching on Kickstarter, it has gotten coverage in Techcrunch and Boingboing, and received 89% funding in the first 24 hours. I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts about the device, the Kickstarter campaign, and any ways of publicizing the campaign that I might be missing. I'm most interested in hearing anyone thoughts about how the Kickstarter page might be improved to boost conversions, as the clock is…
What it does
In the maker’s words, at launch

Hi HN, Three of us have conceived, designed, and launched Sphericam 2 on Kickstarter. We're now halfway through the campaign and have raised over $220K with backers paying $1299 and up for a camera that will be shipping in December. Our Pitch: VR is awesome but there's no content. Shooting 360 video currently is a total nightmare. We want to make it easy and fun. Our camera makes "native resolution" in Gear VR or Google Cardboard. This project follows Sphericam 1 which I launched on Kickstarter in late 2012 - we did ok, sold 100 of them, but the tech wasn't there and the market wasn't nearly…

I've been working on an app in my spare time for about the past 6 months in between my day job and taking care of my 10 month old daughter. I'm launching a beta today and would love to get the communities feedback. It's called Pagify and it's an app that allows you to build custom Facebook tabs using their new iframe method. I'm quite proud of the fact that I actually got this out the door. This past year my life has been quite hectic. Let me know your thoughts and give me a "Like" if so inclined :). Thanks View the app at http://pagifyapp.com Skip the Marketing stuff and go straight to the…

So I came across this really cool new service that works like Instapaper for video, and thought I'd share it with HN. Just got my invite today and I've been LOVING it so far. It lets me discover videos, bookmark them and watch offline on my iPad or iPhone. (My hour long subway rides without internet aren't painful anymore. Phew)

- ISI successfully failed at one-shot-ing a video codec like h.264Apr 2026 · github.com · ▲9
Read an article yesterday about the H.264 codec increasing their licensing fee by an astronomical amount. And as always, my first shot was how hard could it be to try and build a codec which could be that efficient. I've personally been on a drive to improve my ability to one-shot complex features, products, or make even surgical changes. It's been a few months since I've been doing that, and honestly, results have been great for both work and work/life balance. This was a fun experiment. It burned through tokens, but it helped me identify some more improvements I could make to my…
