I made a Fallout inspired PIP-Boy portfolio

Hey, last year I started working on this high-on-the-midnight motivation and yesterday I decided to finally finish it. I hope you all like it :) It's only opitimised for desktops

I made a Fallout inspired PIP-Boy portfolio launched on December 24, 2023 with 29 votes, #798 of 3,780 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 2 years on.

In plain words

This is a portfolio website designed to resemble a Pip-Boy from the Fallout video game series. The creator built it as a personal project to showcase their work, completing it after working on it sporadically throughout the year. The site is optimized for desktop viewing and combines a retro-futuristic aesthetic with portfolio functionality. It is intended for creators and professionals looking for an unconventional way to present their work.

A few months ago I noticed that I was quickly approaching my 10GB sync limit for my daily driver vault. I considered deprecating some of the heavier files and images, but I was worried how it would affect the integrity of my vault. Instead, I took the opportunity to think to myself -- what would the perfect vault look like? I began to write down some of the key philosophies and strategies I use in my driver vault which led to indispensable plugins, which led to more indispensable philosophies and on and on it went. I've chronicled these results into a fully working vault template that…

Hi everyone, I’m an indie developer learning Next.js and a big fan of the NYT game Pips. Inspired by it, I built https://pipsgamer.com — a responsive web version of Pips with smooth gameplay on both desktop and mobile. What makes this project different from NYT’s version is that you can play it infinitely under three difficulty levels: Easy / Medium / Hard. This is the first time I’ve built a game. Along the way I ran into many difficulties: implementing the game logic, configuring the UI, matching layouts for small and large screens, etc. I spent many lonely nights and…

Okay Semi-joking with the title But yeah, been working on this for a while, looks pretty cool (even on mobile) Has Games, Themes, fun misc commands, an "AI" JARVIS (PS: I'd challenge you to guess the LLM I'm using :p) Open Source(ish) too - https://github.com/Kuberwastaken/kuberwastaken.github.io Would love to know if you've seen better or what can I improve (half considering adding a GUI mode for non technical people too)

  • Hi HN! I’m proud to share that we have built a real 3rd party iMessage client for Android. We did it by reverse engineering the iMessage protocol and encryption system. It's available to download today (no waitlist): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beeper.ima and there's a technical writeup here: https://blog.beeper.com/p/how-beeper-mini-works. Unlike every other attempt to build an iMessage app for Android (including our first gen app), Beeper Mini does not use a Mac server relay in the cloud. The app connects directly to Apple…

  • Hey! I made Heynote entirely for my own use case. For many years, I always had an Emacs instance running with the scratch buffer open, even long after I had abandoned Emacs as my programming editor in favor of more recent IDE:s. The simplicity of having just one big scratch buffer appeals to me, but I still want to separate the different things I jot down somehow (without using tabs or similar). Previously, my solution was to insert a bunch of blank lines between the notes, but hitting C-A would still select the entire buffer. That's why I came up with the concept of "blocks", which turned…
