In plain words

An iOS podcast player built using the Racket programming language. This project demonstrates using Racket, a functional programming language, to create a mobile application for listening to podcasts. It is designed for developers interested in exploring alternative languages for iOS development and for podcast listeners looking for a Racket-based option. The standout feature is the unconventional technology choice, showing how Racket can be applied to practical mobile app development rather than traditional systems like Swift.

I made a podcast player for iOS. It's called Podcatcher and it's live on the iOS App Store! As with most things I've made in the past several years, it's implemented using a combination of Racket and Swift. This approach continues to be a very fun and productive way for me to write apps, and working on these projects has allowed me to refine it further. For example, I've recently added async support to Noise and made it compliant with Swift Concurrency while maintaining backwards-compatibility with the existing implementation based on Future s. Why a podcast player? Because I listen to podcasts a lot (like a lot, a lot, a hundred hours a month a lot) and the podcast player I used to use…from defn.io

I realized that the PDF engines of modern desktop browsers (PDFium and PDF.js) support JavaScript with enough I/O primitives to make a basic game like Tetris. It was a bit tricky to find a union of features that work in both engines, but in the end it turns out that showing/hiding annotation "fields" works well to make monochrome pixels, and keyboard input can be achieved by typing in a text input box. All in all it's quite janky but a nice reminder of how general purpose PDF scripting can be. The linked PDF is all ASCII so you can just open it in a text editor, or have a look at…

I originally built this app to organize and reuse interesting React + Tailwind components I came across on Twitter, inspired by the shadcn/ui approach. Later, a friend started contributing their own components, and it got me thinking—this could grow into something bigger, like an NPM for design engineers to share and use components. Would love to hear your thoughts!
