Idea to App store in 1 month using JQuery Mobile + PhoneGap

This is a side project I made with the help of JQuery Mobile and PhoneGap. Design (1 week) Actual coding was about (2 weeks) Release to apple roller-coaster ride (1 week) Content came from my business partner. I was so worried Apple would reject the application because it's 90% javascript, but to my surprise it passed with flying colors! I ended up rewriting the app a few times because jquery mobile was so slow. I wrote it again using Zepto but it wasn't any faster. Turns out the web view in iOS uses an older version of the mobile safari, and as a result a slower javascript engine.…

In plain words

This is an iOS app built with jQuery Mobile and PhoneGap that was designed, coded, and released to the App Store within one month. The creator documented the development process, including design (one week), coding (two weeks), and Apple's approval process (one week). The project is primarily JavaScript-based and encountered performance challenges during development, though these were eventually traced to device-specific issues rather than framework limitations. The app's content was provided by the creator's business partner.

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
