If VS Code had a data-centric IDE sibling, what would that look like?

In plain words
Positron is a data-centric IDE designed for scientists and data analysts who work with R and Python. It combines interactive notebooks, console access, and file management in a single interface similar to VS Code. The tool integrates data viewing capabilities, package management, and plotting support to streamline data analysis workflows. Positron allows users to write, execute, and visualize code in one environment built specifically for statistical computing and data exploration tasks.

Erdos – open-source, AI data science IDEOct 2025 · lotas.ai · ▲86Hey HN! We’re Jorge and Will from Lotas (https://www.lotas.ai/), and we’ve built Erdos, a secure AI-powered data science IDE that’s fully open source (https://www.lotas.ai/erdos). A few months ago, we shared Rao, an AI coding assistant for RStudio (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44638510). We built Rao to bring the Cursor-like experience to RStudio users. Now we want to take the next step and deliver a tool for the entire data science community that handles Python, R, SQL, and Julia workflows. Erdos is a fork of VS Code designed for data…

Weave2025 · app.workweave.ai · ▲237Hey HN, We’re building Weave: an ML-powered tool to measure engineering output, that actually understands engineering output! Why? Here’s the thing: almost every eng leader already measures output - either openly or behind closed doors. But they rely on metrics like lines of code (correlation with effort: ~0.3), number of PRs, or story points (slightly better at ~0.35). These metrics are, frankly, terrible proxies for productivity. We’ve developed a custom model that analyzes code and its impact directly, with a far better 0.94 correlation. The result? A standardized engineering output…

Hi! One of the creators here. Very proud to finally be able to show you what we've been working on for over a year now. Curious to hear your thoughts! Objectiv is open-source (APLv2) product analytics infrastructure. It's built around a generic but strict event taxonomy, open/common data- and infra tools (currently PG, snowplow, working on bigquery with more to come), and the analyses are done using our pandas-like, SQL speaking modeling library called Bach. As a result, we’re moving towards a vision wherein models can be shared openly, independent of product, platform[1] or data…

Locofy.ai▲720Hey there, I am Honey - Co-founder at Locofy. We, along with other makers, have been building Locofy.ai to help massively accelerate the builders - the designers, developers, product managers & founders, and we're excited to share it today with the HN Community. Locofy.ai simply converts designs into production-ready frontend code for web and mobile apps. It adapts to your preferred design tools, tech stack, and workflows with ease and lets you launch upto 4x faster, while letting designers design the way they want and giving high-quality responsive code that developers love. With this…

Hello, HN - I wanted to share this puzzle game I made during my vacation. I'm rather fond of the pipes puzzle where your goal is to restore a scrambled network of connections by rotating tiles. It's usually played on a grid of squares and this all started when I decided to make a programmatic solver for that kind of puzzle. Then I realized that with some minor changes the solver could generate new puzzle instances. I thought about what kind of puzzle to make and someone suggested a hexagonal grid. Adapting the generator wasn't too hard but then I had to create a way to play this variant. So…

We're building Parsnip to create a "tech tree" of cooking skills that allows anyone to level up on the building blocks of cooking knowledge while tracking their progress over time. It took us a few iterations to figure out the right product; here's the story of our latest pivot: [https://parsnip.substack.com/p/a-new-hope] The goal is to create a personalized way to learn any recipe on the Internet, then use this as a springboard to help home cooks of all levels solve the problem of repeated meal planning in a 10x better way:…
