Last Seen Up

Uptime monitoring that only wakes you for real outages

What it does

Most uptime monitors page you for a blip. Last Seen Up confirms a failure over consecutive checks before an incident opens, collapses a flapping monitor into one notification, and stays quiet during maintenance windows. When it is real, it reaches you: a push, a live countdown on your iOS lock screen you acknowledge in one tap, then a phone call if nobody answers. Seven checks — HTTP, TCP, ping, DNS, SSL expiry, domain renewal, and heartbeats for cron jobs. Free for 3 monitors.

Last Seen Up watches your sites, servers and scheduled jobs around the clock. It double-checks every failure before it wakes anyone, then sends the alert straight to your phone.

We watch your sites, servers and scheduled jobs around the clock. A real outage reaches your phone in seconds. A blip does not reach you at all. This is the night the panel above is playing: one site, checked every thirty seconds, called down after 2 failures in a row. That is the default, and it is why a single hiccup never costs you a night’s sleep. Nothing happens. One refused connection is not an outage, and this monitor waits for 2 in a row. The result is saved either way. Now it counts. An incident opens with what failed, where it was checked from, and when the site was last healthy. Everyone on the team gets a push, and a live countdown appears on the lock screen. Tap to acknowledge.…from lastseenup.com

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
