Life in Weeks

I built open-source cross-platform desktop app that turns your wallpaper into a visualization of your life in weeks, inspired by Tim Urban's Wait But Why post. Each square is one week. It updates automatically every Monday. You can visualize your entire life, the current year, or next N months. Tech details: Rust for the CLI (generates wallpaper images with cairo) Tauri for the cross-platform GUI Native wallpaper setting for Windows/macOS/Linux Automatic scheduling via Task Scheduler/launchd/systemd ~5MB CLI binary, ~15-20MB GUI installer Three modes: Life mode - see…

What it does

Life in Weeks turns your wallpaper into a powerful visualization of time. Inspired by Tim Urban's iconic "Your Life in Weeks" post, this app shows your life as a grid of weeks - making every square count. What makes it special: ✓ Three visualization modes (Life, Year-end, Next N months) ✓ Auto-updates every Monday morning ✓ 4 beautiful themes (Dark, Terminal, Minimal, Sunset) ✓ Works on Windows, macOS, and Linux ✓ Both CLI for developers and GUI for everyone ✓ 100% free and open source

A dynamic wallpaper generator that visualizes your life in weeks. Track your time, make it count.

Inspired by Tim Urban's powerful visualization, Life in Weeks transforms your desktop into a constant reminder of time's passage. Each week is a square. Each square matters. Visualize your entire life from birth to expected lifespan. See how many weeks you've lived and how many remain. Track weeks remaining until December 31st. Perfect for annual goals and year-end reflections. Focus on the upcoming months. Great for project timelines and short-term planning. Choose from 4 carefully crafted themes: Dark, Terminal, Minimal, and Sunset Gradient. Wallpaper regenerates automatically every Monday at 6 AM. Set it once, forget it. Works on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Available as both CLI tool and…from life-in-weeks-coral.vercel.app

Hi! I made an interactive visualization of your life in weeks. Inspired by Tim Urban's Your Life in Weeks (Wait But Why) and Buster Benson's Life in Weeks. Hopefully it's a fun thing to do together with family over the holidays. I wrote about it on my digital garden: https://www.petemillspaugh.com/weeks-of-your-life Any feedback is welcome. Top on my todo list is improving performance (reduce interaction lag).

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

Hey HN! I wanted to share something I built over the last few weeks: isometric.nyc is a massive isometric pixel art map of NYC, built with nano banana and coding agents. I didn't write a single line of code. Of course no-code doesn't mean no-engineering. This project took a lot more manual labor than I'd hoped! I wrote a deep dive on the workflow and some thoughts about the future of AI coding and creativity: http://cannoneyed.com/projects/isometric-nyc
