LocalWhisper | Transcriber & Summarizer

Turn raw transcripts into private business briefs via Llama3

LocalWhisper | Transcriber & Summarizer launched on August 20, 2026 with 1 votes, #11,494 of 23,274 launches that month.

What it does

Hey Hunters! 👋 I built LocalWhisper cause I wanted a completely offline stack to process my meeting audio notes and text transcripts without worrying about data privacy or expensive recurring cloud subscription fees. It runs 100% locally on your Mac and leverages your existing Ollama setup using live streaming to output structured business insights It’s live on itch.io under a 'Pay What You Want' model. I’d love to get your feedback and know what features you want to see in the next update!

    OWhisper – Ollama for realtime speech-to-text2025 · docs.hyprnote.com · ▲289

Hello everyone. This is Yujong from the Hyprnote team (https://github.com/fastrepl/hyprnote). We built OWhisper for 2 reasons: (Also outlined in https://docs.hyprnote.com/owhisper/what-is-this) (1). While working with on-device, realtime speech-to-text, we found there isn't tooling that exists to download / run the model in a practical way. (2). Also, we got frequent requests to provide a way to plug in custom STT endpoints to the Hyprnote desktop app, just like doing it with OpenAI-compatible LLM endpoints. The (2) part is still kind of WIP, but…

Hi Hackers, Excited to share a macOS app I've been working on: https://recurse.chat/ for chatting with local AI. While it's amazing that you can run AI models locally quite easily these days (through llama.cpp / llamafile / ollama / llm CLI etc.), I missed feature complete chat interfaces. Tools like LMStudio are super powerful, but there's a learning curve to it. I'd like to hit a middleground of simplicity and customizability for advanced users. Here's what separates RecurseChat out from similar apps: - UX designed for you to use local AI as a daily driver.…

I wanted a voice-to-text app but didn't trust any of the proprietary ones with my privacy. So I decided to see if I could vibe code it with 0 macOS app & Swift experience. It uses a local binary of whisper.cpp (a fast implementation of OpenAI's Whisper voice-to-text model in C++). Github: https://github.com/richardwu/openwhisper I also decided to take this as an opportunity to compare 3 agentic coding harnesses: Cursor w/ Opus 4.6: - Best one-shot UI by far - Didn't get permissioning correct - Had issues making the "Cancel recording" hotkey being turned on all the…

  • Hey HN, We recently built Clipto. It’s a tool that lets you search over terabytes of video, audio, and images on your computer, without relying on the cloud. Motivation: we probably all had this similar experience, we know a moment exists in a video or audio, but finding it takes hours scrubbing the timeline. You can send all the media to process in the cloud, but it’s slow, expensive and raises privacy concerns. So we decided to build our own on-device media search engine. How it works (high level): 1. We ingest video, audio, image; normalize formats via ffmpeg; run content analysis to…

  • Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…
