Logchef

Open-source log analytics for ClickHouse & VictoriaLogs

What it does

Logchef 2.0 turns the logs you already keep in ClickHouse or VictoriaLogs into a complete, self-hosted analytics workspace. Search with portable LogchefQL or native SQL/LogsQL, live-tail events, build mixed-source dashboards, create alerts, and investigate through the CLI, MCP server, or AI query assistant. It ships as one binary, works with your existing ingestion pipeline and schema, and includes OIDC, RBAC, teams, and scoped service tokens in the open-source build.

Search, live tail, dashboards, and alerts for logs stored in ClickHouse or VictoriaLogs. One open-source, self-hosted binary with no new log storage layer.

Search, tail, visualize, and alert on logs without adding another log storage layer. Logchef runs as a single self-hosted binary and queries the data already in your infrastructure. New in Logchef 2.0 One operational view across every log backend VictoriaLogs is now a first-class datasource, and dashboards can combine it with ClickHouse on the same grid. The backend changes; the investigation workflow does not. Cross-source dashboards See the whole system, not another silo Mix ClickHouse and VictoriaLogs panels on one grid. Stats, time series, breakdowns, and tables share the same time range and refresh together. VictoriaLogs, first-class Use LogchefQL, or go native Explore VictoriaLogs…from logchef.app

Hey HN, I'm Karan. I built Logchef because we moved our log workloads to ClickHouse at Zerodha and found the ecosystem lacking for actual log exploration. Tools like Metabase and Grafana are great for dashboards, but log exploration is a different workflow. The Grafana ClickHouse plugin requires manual column configuration for logs, has no field sidebar, and its ad-hoc filters are slow on large tables. Grafana's RBAC is Enterprise-only, and even then it's datasource-level and not at table-level. If someone has access to the ClickHouse datasource, they can query any table. In Logchef, you…

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
