lsblk.lua: lsblk(8) for FreeBSD using Lua in base system launched on April 20, 2025 with 6 votes and more than 75% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 1 year on.

What it does

lsblk.lua implements a FreeBSD command for listing block devices. The output of lsblk.lua is modeled on lsblk(8) from util-linux . lsblk.lua is implemented in flua , a version of Lua (currently Lua 5.4) included in the FreeBSD base system. lsblk.lua has been tested on FreeBSD 13.4-RELEASE and 14.2-RELEASE. The ZFS functionality works on Linux and NetBSD with OpenZFS, but the focus of this project is FreeBSD. FreeBSD 13 or 14 with /usr/libexec/flua available (the default). git clone https://github.com/dbohdan/lsblk.lua cd lsblk.lua # Install for the current user. # You may need to add `~/.local/bin/` to `PATH`. mkdir -p ~ /.local/bin/ install lsblk.lua ~ /.local/bin/ # Install for all users.…from github.com

  • Clx – Compile Lua to Native Executables Through C++20Jul 2026 · github.com · ▲143

    Hi HN, clx is an ahead-of-time compiler for standard Lua that generates C++20 and produces standalone native executables through GCC, Clang or MSVC. The project started as an experiment to see whether modern C++ could be used as a portable compiler backend instead of LLVM or direct machine code generation. The generated code is then compiled and optimized by the host toolchain. The latest release replaces the previous NaN-tagged value representation with a new shadow-types implementation, adds full int64 support, improves native arithmetic code generation and adds ARM64 macOS coroutine…

  • go-nbd – A Pure Go NBD Server and Client2023 · github.com · ▲113

    Hey HN! I just released go-nbd, a lightweight Go library for effortlessly creating NBD servers and clients. Its a neat tool for creating custom Linux block devices with arbitrary backends, such as a file, byte slice or what I'm planning to use it for, a tape drive. While there are a few partially abandoned projects like this out there already, this library tries to be as maintainable as possible by only implementing the most recent handshake revision and baseline functionality for both the client and the server, while still having enough support to be useful. I'd love to get your feedback :)

    Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

  • Hi everyone, I built PyXL — a hardware processor that executes a custom assembly generated from Python programs, without using a traditional interpreter or virtual machine. It compiles Python -> CPython Bytecode -> Instruction set designed for direct hardware execution. I’m sharing an early benchmark: a GPIO test where PyXL achieves a 480ns round-trip toggle — compared to 14-25 micro seconds on a MicroPython Pyboard - even though PyXL runs at a lower clock (100MHz vs. 168MHz). The design is stack-based, fully pipelined, and preserves Python's dynamic typing without static type restrictions.…
