Luminal
A better way to write Python scripts
Luminal launched on November 3, 2022 with 71 votes, #788 of 3,471 launches that month and more than 50% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 3 years on.
What it does
Luminal is a new kind of Python notebook that makes it faster and easier to write Python scripts. Use no-code cells for common operations, and fill in the gaps with your own code. Easily share and collaborate on scripts in real-time, Google Docs style.
404 means the file is not found. If you have already uploaded the file then the name may be misspelled or it is in a different folder. You may get a 404 error for images because you have Hot Link Protection turned on and the domain is not on the list of authorized domains. If you go to your temporary url (http://ip/~username/) and get this error, there maybe a problem with the rule set stored in an .htaccess file. You can try renaming that file to .htaccess-backup and refreshing the site to see if that resolves the issue. It is also possible that you have inadvertently deleted your document root or the your account may need to be recreated. Either way, please contact your web host…from getluminal.com

Hi everyone! We're the co-founders of Luminal. We built Luminal because we were frustrated with existing Python notebooks. Python is a very powerful programming language, but it can be hard/confusing to use. There are a few aspects to this: • Python likes functions with _lots_ of arguments. Without good type info this means constantly switching back and forth between the docs and your editor. • Except for basic syntax errors, you generally don't know that you have an error in your code until you run it. This can be very annoying, especially if running takes a while! • Many things that…
Luminal – Open-source, search-based GPU compiler2025 · github.com · ▲153Hi HN, I’m Joe. My friends Matthew, Jake and I are building Luminal (https://luminalai.com/), a GPU compiler for automatically generating fast GPU kernels for AI models. It uses search-based compilation to achieve high performance. We take high level model code, like you'd have in PyTorch, and generate very fast GPU code. We do that without using LLMs or AI - rather, we pose it as a search problem. Our compiler builds a search space, generates millions of possible kernels, and then searches through it to minimize runtime. You can try out a demo in `demos/matmul` on mac to…

Talanoa▲341Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

I made a thing! In 2014, I was holding a stack of iPhones and thought to myself: "Hey, if I had each phone display a playing card, I could click a button and they'd shuffle themselves" I pared that idea all the way down to this: trading cards made of e-ink displays. Right now, each card costs me about $20 each, but with only a bit more scale, I think I can get that down to $10. In doing this project, I learned how to design electronics and circuit boards. I learned Rust and wrote my first driver, I upped my CAD skills, 3D printed, and did my first resin casting. I generated the images on the…
