Mcp-hacker-news – An MCP server for accessing Hacker News data via LLMs
Hi HN! I built mcp-hacker-news, an MCP server for Hacker News. It acts as a bridge between the Hacker News API and AI-powered tools that support MCP (like Claude and Cursor). With this MCP server, you can fetch and interact with live Hacker News data—posts, comments, or users. The project is written in TypeScript and aims to facilitate seamless integration between LLMs and automation workflows and HN data. I'm sharing this to get feedback from developers, LLM tinkerers, or anyone interested in open AI workflows and data integration. If you have ideas for improvement or want to contribute,…

A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for Hacker News built with TypeScript. This MCP server acts as a bridge between the official Hacker News API and AI-powered tools that support the Model Context Protocol, such as Claude and Cursor . It enables these tools to fetch and interact with live Hacker News data (posts, comments, users) via standardized MCP endpoints. Add to your Claude desktop config ( claude_desktop_config.json ) or your Cursor config file ( mcp.json ) : ⚠️ If you are unsure about your Node.js version, run node --version in your terminal. Hacker Search – A semantic search engine for Hacker News2024 · hackersearch.net · ▲233Hi HN! I'm Jonathan and I built Hacker Search (https://hackersearch.net), a semantic search engine for Hacker News. Type a keyword or a description of what you're interested in, and you'll get top links from HN surfaced to you along with brief summaries. Unlike HN's otherwise very valuable search feature, Hacker Search doesn't require you to get your keywords exactly right. That's achieved by leveraging OpenAI's latest embedding models alongside more traditional indexes extracted from the scraped and cleaned up contents of the links. I think there are many more interesting things…
My recommendation engine for Hacker News2023 · hn-recommend.julienc.me · ▲314Hi! I’m Julien and I built a recommendation engine for Hacker News. I feel like this website is a gold mine. Every day, I find some very interesting stories about a topic. And sometimes, I want to find other stories covering that same topic but I can’t. Hacker News has years of history of awesome discussion and ressources. Unfortunately, I think HN Algolia isn’t helpful in searching these old threads. As a student, I want to learn a lot from this website. This is why I created HN Recommend. Input a sentence or the URL of an article, and get the most popular and similar posts from Hacker…

Hyperbrowser MCP Server – Connect AI agents to the web through browsers2025 · github.com · ▲63Hi HN! Excited to share our MCP Server at Hyperbrowser - something we’ve been working on for a few days. We think it’s a pretty neat way to connect LLMs and IDEs like Cursor / Windsurf to the internet. Our MCP server exposes seven tools for data collection and browsing: 1. `scrape_webpage` - Extract formatted (markdown, screenshot etc) content from any webpage 2. `crawl_webpages` - Navigate through multiple linked pages and extract LLM-friendly formatted content 3. `extract_structured_data` - Convert messy HTML into structured JSON 4. `search_with_bing` - Query the web and get results…

Hey HN! Pilots everywhere are required to keep a logbook of all their flying hours, aircraft, airports, and so on. Since I track everything digitally (some people still just use paper logbooks!), I put together some data visualizations and a few 3D globes to show my flying history. This globe is probably my favourite so far: https://jameshard.ing/pilot/globes/all If you’ve got ideas for other graphs or ways to show this kind of data, I’d love to hear them!

I was the main contributor to workout.lol, an open-source fitness app to easily build a workout routine. The project had traction (1.4k GitHub stars, 95 forks, ~20K visits/month), but was eventually sold due to video licensing hurdles. The new owner stopped maintaining it, and the repo went abandoned. Over the next 9 months, I sent 15 emails to try to save it : no replies. Feature requests & issues were ignored. The community was left with a "broken" tool let's say. I couldn't just let it die So I built the new version from scratch with the same open-source spirit, but a better…
