MCPanel

Developer first local MCP servers manager

What it does

MCPanel is a lightweight (~7MB), native desktop application designed to streamline the local development of Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers. Built with Tauri and Rust, it provides a visual interface to easily start/stop servers, stream real-time logs without freezing the UI, and manually craft JSON-RPC requests via an integrated workbench. By implementing strict process management and native OS credential storage, MCPanel eliminates plaintext API keys and orphaned background processes.

Lightweight desktop app for managing local MCP servers. Postman for MCP. Tauri + Rust, ~7 MB. - Q01P/MCPanel

A lightweight desktop app for managing local MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers: "Postman for MCP." No Electron, no bundled runtime, ~7 MB binary. MCP servers are the small stdio programs that give AI clients access to tools. Today you babysit them with raw terminals, hand-edited JSON configs, and zero visibility. MCPanel gives you a control panel instead. Heads up: builds are currently unsigned. Your OS will complain the first time. This is expected for a young open-source project; code signing certificates are on the roadmap. Download the .dmg . Gatekeeper will likely claim the app is "damaged and can't be opened." It isn't; that's macOS's message for unsigned downloads. Either: xattr…from github.com

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
