Movieagent.io – An agent for movie recommendations (with couple mode)
Most Friday nights and weekends, my wife and I would spend 30+ minutes scrolling Netflix, vetoing each other's movie suggestions. The intersection of our tastes is pretty small. She's into rom coms and the occasional thriller, and couldn't care less about ratings. I gravitate toward critically acclaimed stuff and 3h+ sagas. Eventually, we would settle on something neither of us really wanted, or a comfort TV show. So, I built movieagent.io to help us. It's an agent that finds what you're in the mood for tonight. In plain words
Movieagent.io is an AI-powered tool that helps couples find movies to watch together by asking preference questions and running head-to-head movie comparisons. The agent learns each person's tastes and finds recommendations that bridge different preferences, completing the process in 2-3 minutes. It's designed for couples who struggle to agree on what to watch and want to avoid lengthy browsing sessions or settling on compromises neither party enjoys.

The agent plays the role of an arbiter, and does its best to try and bridge the gap between users. The whole process takes about 2-3 minutes, depending on the level of disagreement (and Anthropic's API load). The agent asks a few quick questions, then runs "duels", showing you two movies and asking which movie resonates more. Your choices reveal which direction the agent should probe into more. Finally, the user(s) get 4-5 movies at the end with a personalized recommendation note as to why this particular movie is a good choice for tonight. It still hit or miss sometimes, but it did help us to a couple of great movie nights.

I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.

Hey HN, Henry from Cactus here! We previously released Cactus Needle, a 14MB agentic LLM for tool call, device use, and structured extraction for phones, wearables, smart homes, small robots and microcontrollers. We got really great feedback here, and have now incorporated the suggestions to release Needle 2. The whole model is a single 14MB binary that runs a full session in 28MB of RAM; 45m parameters at 2bit compression. Needle hits 500 tokens/sec decode speed on a Raspberry Pi 5, sits between 400-1,500 tokens/sec on VR devices like Meta Quest 3S and Apple Vision Pro, and ranges…

Hey HN! I wanted to share something I built over the last few weeks: isometric.nyc is a massive isometric pixel art map of NYC, built with nano banana and coding agents. I didn't write a single line of code. Of course no-code doesn't mean no-engineering. This project took a lot more manual labor than I'd hoped! I wrote a deep dive on the workflow and some thoughts about the future of AI coding and creativity: http://cannoneyed.com/projects/isometric-nyc
