Nest Your CSS
Hey HN, About a year ago, I found out about native CSS Nesting but was surprised to find no simple, pure CSS converters online. The closest were CSS-to-SCSS tools that often produced invalid (pure CSS) code that required manual refactoring. So, I decided to build my own. It started as a barebones MVP (quickly.nestyourcss.com), but I got carried away with a personal challenge: could I turn a simple A-to-B online converter tool into something that felt like an "Awwwards-level" website? I'm not a designer, and I know I didn't fully hit that mark, but it was a fantastic learning experience and…

What it does
A (hopefully) beautifully designed & developed, framework-less tool to convert standard CSS into nested CSS. Free, open-source, and born from a challenge to build an 'Awwwards-level' simple online converter tool.
Nest, denest, beautify and minify your CSS in seconds with our free tool. Makes maintenance a breeze and supports the latest spec for perfect code readability.
BUT WHY THOUGH? Reducing Boilerplate Code With nesting, you can avoid repeating common styles in multiple selectors . This helps reduce the size of your code and makes any future modifications easier . By using CSS nesting, any style chnages changes can be implemented better more efficiently . It promotes readability , maintainability, and & modularity in your stylesheets. Nesting makes your code easier to read and understand for both yourself and other developers . It allows you to write cleaner, easier-to-read nested selectors , making code much easier to maintain and increase development productivity. Nesting helps you to group related styles and write CSS in a nested hierarchy . This…from nestyourcss.com

Convert any website into a React component2024 · chromewebstore.google.com · ▲326Hey HN, we built a Chrome Extension (https://www.magicpatterns.com/extension) that converts a snippet of any website to an isolated React component. Demo video: https://youtu.be/hutUYDkyE_A How it works: 1) Iterate through each node in the selected DOM tree, 2) For each element, find any matching CSS selectors / inline styles, 3) Use window.getComputedStyle to get the deterministic values, 4) Construct JSX It was pretty hard producing the minimal code necessary while maintaining the same visual look. To do this, we implemented things like abstracting out…

http://instacss.com (in case DNS update hasn't propagated: http://morning-warrior-3377.herokuapp.com/) Last night I was annoyed at how slow (and web 1.0-ish) most CSS reference sites seem to be, so I created this. It's basically a scrape of the CSS reference on w3schools, but with client side searching. Feedback is most welcome! some of the tech involved: node, requirejs, backbone, mongodb the code: http://github.com/rgarcia/instacss

Talanoa▲346Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

I built the world's most impractical 1000-pixel display and anyone in the world can draw on it. It draws a single pixel at a time and takes 30-60 minutes to complete a single image. Anyone can participate in the project by voting for the next image to be drawn, and submitting images. https://kilopx.com/

Kitten TTS is an open-source series of tiny and expressive text-to-speech models for on-device applications. We are excited to launch a preview of our smallest model, which is less than 25 MB. This model has 15M parameters. This release supports English text-to-speech applications in eight voices: four male and four female. The model is quantized to int8 + fp16, and it uses onnx for runtime. The model is designed to run literally anywhere eg. raspberry pi, low-end smartphones, wearables, browsers etc. No GPU required! We're releasing this to give early users a sense of the latency and voices…

I was wondering how I can arrange objects along a spherical helix path, and read some articles on it. I ended up learning about parametric equations again, and make this visualization to document what I learned: https://visualrambling.space/moving-objects-in-3d/ feel free to visit and let me know what you think!

For HTML Day 2025 [1], I made a web service that displays the current sky at your approximate location as a CSS gradient. Colours are simulated on-demand using atmospheric absorption and scattering coefficients. Updates every minute, without the use of client-side JavaScript.
