NookApp

When was the last time you clean your download folder?

What it does

Nook opens each file, works out what it actually is, and gives it a name you'd recognise in six months. You press an arrow key. Runs entirely on your Mac. €3.99 once.

Nook reads each file on your Mac — even scanned PDFs — renames it and files it away. Three keys, no rules to write. Runs offline on Apple silicon. €3.99.

Nook opens each file, works out what it actually is, and gives it a name you’d still recognise in six months. You press an arrow key. That’s your half of the deal. Top row: your Downloads folder. Bottom row: the same files, after. Ten files, one take, nothing cut. Watch the screenshot go in as Screenshot 2026-06-02 at 09.41.18.png and come out described. Nook looked at the picture. No rules to write, nothing to configure. Nook proposes, you decide. Renamed, moved, done. It won’t overwrite anything already sitting there. To the system Trash, where it sulks until you empty it. Nothing is ever really gone. Stays exactly where it is. And ⌘Z undoes the last one, for when you get trigger-happy.…from trynookapp.com

    I've built a macOS app for developers to clean their dev machines2024 · apps.apple.com · ▲29

Hi there! During last time we (me and my friend) were building an app to clean various stuff after Xcode. I was fed up as a developer that Apple related things load my drive and I need hundreds of gigabytes just to do my job. It's live now on Mac App Store and we'll be glad to hear your feedback: https://apps.apple.com/ua/app/cleano/id6469460523 Features - Simulators cleanup. It's a correct cleanup via 'simctl' so you even don't need to restart Xcode for it to take effect - SPM repos cache. Swift PM stores github repos for packages separately and never removes…

    Fileloupe for Mac2015 · ▲16

After years of lurking on Hacker News, I figured it was time to finally contribute back. Fileloupe for Mac is a new Mac application that I've been working on for the last year. Version 1.0 was just released in the Mac App Store but Hacker News readers are welcome to download a beta version of 1.1 here: https://kennyc.s3.amazonaws.com/Fileloupe1.1-72-Beta.zip Fileloupe is a high-performance, incredibly fast file viewer that, I think, makes looking at photos, videos, PDFs and documents a lot better than the existing solutions. It doesn't replace Finder (or iPhoto /…

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
