Novus – local HTTPS proxy for a delightful developer experience

A local HTTPS proxy for a delightful developer experience on macOS - jozefcipa/novus

Novus – local HTTPS proxy for a delightful developer experience launched on November 17, 2024 with 5 votes and more than 50% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 1 year on.

What it does

Novus makes it easy to manage multiple localhost services by letting you use real domain names instead. No more dealing with hard-to-remember ports or editing /etc/hosts — just smooth, production-like development on your machine. Under the hood it’s just good old Nginx acting as a proxy and DNSMasq for resolving custom domains. SSL certificates are automatically managed and renewed by mkcert . All you need to do is map your localhost URLs to domain names - Novus takes care of the rest. Enjoy hassle-free development with fully secured, real-world URLs! 🎯 $ brew update $ brew upgrade novus How to use To start using Novus, run novus init to install the dependencies and create a configuration…from github.com

Hi HN! I'm Jarek, and I've built this tool that allows publishing .local domains on the local network using mDNS. It also has a reverse proxy that handles HTTPS termination and port forwarding. I'm working on adding more features, like an index page with all available domains or allowing proxy redirects, so you could redirect from HTTP to HTTPS. Let me know if you have any questions or feedback!

This is a project I've been working on since the start of Covid-19. I built an app so that I don't have to put data into online tools like JWT debugger, JSON formatter, URL decoder, etc... https://devutils.app The app works entirely offline and is open-source. I'm selling the pre-built version of the app to earn some revenue for my time. If you want to try the app but can't afford the price or don't have XCode to build the app, drop me an email (my profile), I'll be happy to provide you a free build. I would love to hear all the feedback/suggestions. Thanks!

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

Hey HN! Previous CERN physicist turned hacker here. We've developed a way to make AI coding actually work by systematically identifying and fixing places where LLMs typically fail in full-stack development. Today we're launching as Lovable (previously gptengineer.app) since it's such a big change. The problem? AI writing code typically make small mistakes and then get stuck. Those who tried know the frustration. We fixed most of this by mapping out where LLMs fail in full-stack dev and engineering around those pitfalls with prompt chains. Thanks to this, in all comparisons I found with: v0,…

  • I wasn't quite sure if this qualified as "Show HN" given you can't really download it and try it out. However, dang said[0]: > If it's hardware or something that's not so easy to try out over the internet, find a different way to show how it actually works—a video, for example, or a detailed post with photos. Hopefully I did that? Additionally, I've put code and a detailed guide for the netboot computer management setup on GitHub: https://github.com/kentonv/lanparty Anyway, if this shouldn't have been Show HN, I apologize!
