Pawvis
Control your Mac via camera & train gestures, local & FOSS
What it does
PawVis turns your Mac’s webcam into a hand-tracked mouse, no extra hardware required. Raise your hand and the cursor follows, dip a finger to click, and fold two fingers to scroll. Map gestures to custom actions like window management or any app/command from a series of common gestures or train your own. Everything runs 100% on-device, and PawVis is free and open source. Enable optional voice control for hands-free commands, or pass computer-use tasks to Codex or Claude Code.
Pawvis turns your webcam into a touch-free pointing device: raise your hand in the air and the cursor follows, dip a finger to click, fold two fingers to scroll. All processing 100% on-device.
Pawvis reads your hand through the webcam: raise it and the cursor follows, dip a finger to click, fold two fingers to scroll. Train gestures of your own to fire any shortcut, app, or command. Nothing to touch, no frame ever leaves your Mac. The camera already built into your Mac watches your hand and tracks its 21 joints many times a second, using Apple's Vision framework. Nothing to wear, nothing to hold, no depth sensor, no hardware to buy. Sit down, hold up a hand, and your Mac can already see it. Tracking watches whenever it's on, but the cursor only follows once you show an open hand : all four fingers up, thumb free. Close a fist for a moment, or leave the frame, and it parks. Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
