Plan your next event by asking when not
Hello fellow hackers! I love creating products that solve people's needs. One day, my wife asked me if I knew of any tools that could help plan a week-long company getaway. The requirements were fairly straightforward: - 14 people - A 7-day trip - Sometime in the next 6 months They weren’t concerned about choosing the exact time yet; they just needed to know which dates would work for everyone—or put another way, when does it NOT work? I searched but couldn’t find anything that met this specific need, so I decided to build it myself. The concept is simple: think of it as an inverse Doodle.…
What it does

Hello fellow hackers! I love creating products that solve people's needs. One day, my wife asked me if I knew of any tools that could help plan a week-long company getaway. The requirements were fairly straightforward: - 14 people - A 7-day trip - Sometime in the next 6 months They weren’t concerned about choosing the exact time yet; they just needed to know which dates would work for everyone—or put another way, when does it NOT work? I searched but couldn’t find anything that met this specific need, so I decided to build it myself. The concept is simple: think of it as an inverse Doodle. You select a date range for the potential event and then ask your friends, family, or coworkers to mark the dates they are unavailable. This way, you can easily identify the best possible time slot. This approach allows flexibility in planning. For instance, if there’s only a 5-day stretch available, that could work too.

Hey there, I've been working on a project that helps you plan a trip by swiping through attractions like tinder. Features include: - Add places by swiping - Simple to use drag-and-drop itinerary planner - Add notes to each place - Get estimated travel and arrival times between places automatically - Automatically arrange places into your itinerary (This doesn't work that well tbh) - Share trips with friends Source code available at: https://github.com/Suu-ly/Outbound It's pretty good for planning day trips but frankly not the best for multi-day trips. Let me know what you…
- IBI Built an AI Holiday Planner for Instant, Expert-Level Itineraries2024 · planitly.com · ▲5
Hi HN, I'm Fran! I'm excited to share my latest project with you all. I built an AI travel planner that generates custom travel itineraries in seconds. Whether you're planning a weekend getaway or a month-long adventure, this tool can create a detailed, professional-level plan that includes day-by-day activities, hotels, restaurants, and more. As a frequent traveler, I wanted to create something that simplifies the overwhelming task of trip planning and ensures you make the most of your time at any destination. The AI considers various factors to provide recommendations that suit your…
- IMI made a route planner app (update from 2018)2020 · ▲8
Hello HN, I made the web app that helps plan your routes/road trips. It has so many options that I don’t know how to explain in simple words :), so I’ll try like this. What is cool about it is that your routes are shareable and hackable. The routes come in the format ie. https://camptarget.com/London,Uk/Vienna,AT/Istanbul,TR/5h:6d, meaning we travel from London via Vienna to Istanbul, driving 5 hours daily while our total time budget would be 6 days. At given breakpoints (after 5 hours) we can explore the nearby locality in radius of some 30-40 miles, for…
- IMI'm a non-hacker "idea guy" and my weekend project took 1,670 + days2012 · ▲21
I am a non-hacker "idea guy" with zero discernible talent. Like most, the story starts with me doing things the hard way. I dreamt of a tool that would save me countless hours. Like most of my ideas, it was supposed to die in a couple of hours, but this one had some legs.... "If I needed this, surely others did too" kept looping in my head. Could I get this built? Could I build it myself? Nah...too lazy to learn how, but before I did anything, I had to promise myself one thing: No more ideas! If ideas were sit-ups, I would have a six pack instead of this tire. It was a constant mental…
- AFApp for sharing your weekly schedule2011 · thesetimes.info · ▲38
Howdy HN, As a small side project, I built a small app to share weekly time schedules. It's been useful for me to help schedule meeting and share semester schedules with friends. I hope some others find some use with it. I have a few more simple ideas to implement with it, and any suggestions are encouraged. Thank you!
- HNhackerByte - Newsletter for Start-up Folks (A weekend Project)2011 · ▲21
Friends, Romans, HNers! Link: http://hackerbyte.com This is my first “weekend project” and it was really fun doing it. The sleepless weekends nights when all my friends were our partying or something we (me and two friends) were busy creating ‘hackerByte’ - a weekly newsletter to share inspiration with start-up people. Nothing fancy - just we’d like to share some really nice stuff we read and some news with you, every week. We know that newsletters like these already exist so why one more? Because we are not really satisfied with what they are doing and here is our version of the wheel. We…

Hi HN, I built Eigendrum, a web tool that solves the 2D wave equation for arbitrary shapes so you can hear what they sound like as drums. How it works: * Solves -∇²u = λu using finite element analysis (Kφ = λMφ) on a triangle mesh. * Validated to <0.1% error against closed-form solutions for circles (Bessel zeros) and rectangles. * Sound model factors in strike location, Rayleigh damping, and mallet width. * Includes Kac drums I & II to demonstrate identical sound spectra from different geometries. * No frameworks, build steps, or dependencies. Repo and tests:…
