Remove Image Backgrounds, Free HD, No Signup
Hi HN, Can old dogs learn new tricks? We've been running clippingmagic.com since we launched it here on hn in May 2013 [0]. It was originally based on a purely "classical" algorithm, but since then Deep Learning has taken over the field, leaving us with the simple choice to adapt or die. Most of our old competitors shut down. The new competition is "a bunch of kids". We're two 40+ year olds with young kids, mortgages, and a 15 year investment in classical image processing algorithms rendered largely obsolete by Deep Learning. Fun times. So it's been challenging, interesting, humbling &…

Image background removal without annoying subscriptions2023 · pixian.ai · ▲383Hi HN, Removing the background from images is a surprisingly common image processing task, and AI has made it really easy. The technology has come a long way since segment leader remove.bg launched here on hn in Dec 2018 [1]. Chasing remove.bg's success, a legion of providers have come on the market offering varying levels of quality & service. Despite there being a large number of competing services, most still price for very high (~95%?) gross margins. Furthermore, subscriptions make the effective unit price a lot higher than the list price for infrequent users, and requires effort &…

I made a thing! In 2014, I was holding a stack of iPhones and thought to myself: "Hey, if I had each phone display a playing card, I could click a button and they'd shuffle themselves" I pared that idea all the way down to this: trading cards made of e-ink displays. Right now, each card costs me about $20 each, but with only a bit more scale, I think I can get that down to $10. In doing this project, I learned how to design electronics and circuit boards. I learned Rust and wrote my first driver, I upped my CAD skills, 3D printed, and did my first resin casting. I generated the images on the…
