RustFrame
Build local-first desktop tools with your frontend stack
What it does
RustFrame is an open-source desktop runtime and CLI for TypeScript and JavaScript teams. Add native windows, embedded SQLite, consent-scoped file access, bounded commands, and cross-platform packaging without turning your app into a Rust project.
Build native macOS, Windows, and Linux workflow tools with TypeScript, embedded SQLite, consent-scoped files, and real installers.
Build local desktop tools in TypeScript or JavaScript. RustFrame owns typed SQLite, consent-scoped machine access, the native window, and real installers—until you decide to eject. RC status: Framework CLI artifacts are public. The initial npm frontend package and signed Research Desk downloads remain open release gates. RustFrame sits between them: a deliberately bounded native substrate for applications whose value lives in local structured data, user-selected files, and repeatable machine workflows. Index documents, search locally, annotate findings, and keep focused reader windows synchronized. Attach a user-approved library, track decisions in SQLite, and export a portable review…from othmaneblial.github.io

- AAAmbient, a multiplayer game engine and platform using WASM/WebGPU/Rust2023 · ambient.run · ▲90
Earlier this year, we released our open-source game engine [0] built with Rust, WebAssembly, and WebGPU. Today, we’re happy to announce the Ambient platform, which brings web deployment, server hosting, and more to the runtime. With Ambient, you can make a game, deploy it to the browser in one command, share your URL and instantly play with others, no downloads or installs needed. Our WASM use is innovative; it is being used as both a sandboxed runtime for user code, and as a way to run the entire Ambient runtime in the browser. This, paired with our ECS data model, enables a highly modular…

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
