In plain words

KLAIG is a development environment designed for running a full software development workflow on a Linux console without a graphical interface. Created to explore energy efficiency in development work, it documents setup techniques, power consumption measurements, and testing of console-based tools like framebuffer web browsers. The project shares insights on hardware impacts like wireless mice and screen backlighting on system power usage.

Second sep332 question. Love the idea, how does it fare on the consumption ? Lots of thanks for this article @sep332 @Mateus Carruccio, idle powertop doesn't change after the customizations compared to the non-customized console. Starting a framebuffer web browser pops up 200 wakeups per seconds. Also I was surprised by how much the backlight influence this number : around 5w difference, and my wireless mouse 2-3w. Which fb web browsers did you try? I installed the framebuffer flavor of netsurf last night (I still need rtfm) and at first look it seems to have more features than links 2. http://www.netsurf-browser.org/ Thanks for the article... inspiringfrom klaig.blogspot.be

Hey Everyone! Ron here, part of the NixOS Foundation and building Flox. Just coming out of this years NixCon and pretty excited to show hn below :) As of today, NVIDIA officially recognizes Canonical, SUSE, CIQ, and Nix—via Flox—as supported distributors for CUDA. Full blog - https://developer.nvidia.com/blog/developers-can-now-get-cud... This is a huge win for the Nix community. For years, CUDA on Nix was possible but painful—builds could take hours, and redistributing prebuilt binaries was blocked by NVIDIA's licensing requirements. NVIDIA's growing engagement with key…

Hey HN, I'm Ron Efroni, CEO at Flox, and today we are releasing version 1.0 of our open source CLI, helping folks manage development environments everywhere. My own experience with development environments began with air-gapped systems, having to actually burn software to a CD to iterate over a very slow and expensive development cycle, sometimes reaching the server rack and realizing I have the wrong disk.... Fast forward to today and there are countless alternatives available backed by incredible compute resources, yet we somehow still find ourselves paying the price of long development…

hey guys. the other day i was migrating hosting providers and i just needed something not too heavy and convenient to spin up my backups for awhile and realised there is almost nothing out there. kimchi hasn't been updated for years and cockpit is heavy. so here's something i came up with in a couple hours because of a sudden urge, nothing fancy just basic creation with cloud init, lifecycle management and image/storage, but it's modern-ish and it compiles to a 8.4mb binary inclusive of the embedded web UI, CLI and API, and only dep is libvirt.

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
