Slurm-web – open-source lightweight web UI for Slurm HPC/AI clusters

Hi HN, I’d like to share Slurm-web, an open source web interface to monitor Slurm HPC & AI clusters in real time. It provides a read-only overview of job queues and node status with metrics and advanced visualizations – useful to sysadmins, managers and end-users – without needing to SSH in or run command-line tools. Slurm is the world's leading workload manager and the de facto standard for HPC and AI clusters. It has a powerful command-line interface, but it's complex to use. Many HPC centers deploy advanced stacks to create custom dashboards with exporters, Prometheus, InfluxDB, Grafana,…

In plain words

Slurm-web is an open-source web interface for monitoring Slurm HPC and AI clusters in real time. It displays job queues, node status, and metrics through interactive visualizations without requiring command-line access. Designed for sysadmins, managers, and end-users, it provides a lightweight alternative to complex monitoring stacks, requiring minimal setup to deploy across cluster environments.

I'm the main developer behind vHPC, a SLURM HPC cluster in a docker compose. As part of my job, I'm working on a software solution that needs to interact with one of the largest Italian HPC clusters (Cineca Leonardo, 270 PFLOPS). Of course developing on the production system was out of question, as it would have led to unbearably long feedback loops. I thus started looking around for existing containerised solutions, which were always lacking some key ingredient in order to suitably mock our target system (accounting, MPI, out of date software, ...). I thus decided that it was worth it to…

hey guys. the other day i was migrating hosting providers and i just needed something not too heavy and convenient to spin up my backups for awhile and realised there is almost nothing out there. kimchi hasn't been updated for years and cockpit is heavy. so here's something i came up with in a couple hours because of a sudden urge, nothing fancy just basic creation with cloud init, lifecycle management and image/storage, but it's modern-ish and it compiles to a 8.4mb binary inclusive of the embedded web UI, CLI and API, and only dep is libvirt.

Hi HN, With this operator, you can run Slurm in Kubernetes and enjoy the benefits of both systems. Both Slurm and Kubernetes can serve as workload managers for distributed model training and high-performance computing (HPC) in general. Each system has its strengths and weaknesses, but the trade-offs are significant. Slurm offers advanced and effective scheduling, granular hardware control, and accounting, but lacks universality. On the other hand, Kubernetes can be used for purposes other than training (e.g. inference) and provides good auto-scaling and self-healing capabilities. It's…

Hey HN! Pilots everywhere are required to keep a logbook of all their flying hours, aircraft, airports, and so on. Since I track everything digitally (some people still just use paper logbooks!), I put together some data visualizations and a few 3D globes to show my flying history. This globe is probably my favourite so far: https://jameshard.ing/pilot/globes/all If you’ve got ideas for other graphs or ways to show this kind of data, I’d love to hear them!

The project had traction (1.4k GitHub stars, 95 forks, ~20K visits/month), but was eventually sold due to video licensing hurdles. The new owner stopped maintaining it, and the repo went abandoned. Over the next 9 months, I sent 15 emails to try to save it : no replies. Feature requests & issues were ignored. The community was left with a "broken" tool let's say. I couldn't just let it die So I built the new version from scratch with the same open-source spirit, but a better…
