Stadia Maps
Simple, affordable digital mapping for every app
Stadia Maps launched on January 30, 2018 with 78 votes, #608 of 3,021 launches that month and more than 50% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 8 years on.
What it does
Stadia Maps addresses two core issues: most online maps are expensive, and when you have the money, difficult to implement and integrate. - We offer base and static maps, and routing. - We provide beautiful themes. - We don't track or sell user data. - We never display ads or your competitors on the map.
Maps, geocoding, search, routing, and navigation APIs built on transparent pricing and privacy-first infrastructure.
Stop battling legacy pricing, forced telemetry, and black-box billing. Choose the location stack engineered for privacy, scale, and developer sanity. Stop battling legacy pricing, forced telemetry, and black-box billing. Choose the location stack engineered for privacy, scale, and developer sanity. Whether it's unannounced price hikes or map load billing that punishes you for having active users, stop paying a tax on your success. Your users' location data shouldn't be treated as a commodity to feed ad networks or train models. Privacy is our foundation, not a premium add-on. Skip the non-technical ticket queue with fast and direct support from actual developers, so you can solve problems…from stadiamaps.com

Over the past week I built a project to let people self-host an entire maps stack so they don't have to send data to the big G. Right now it includes a base map, geocoder and directions server. Currently only bicycle directions are supported, and I'm only hosting tiles for Seattle because I'm unemployed and can't afford to host data for the whole planet. Check it out! https://maps.ellenhp.me/ https://github.com/ellenhp/headway Ultimately I'd like to really focus on transit routing (not implemented) but I'll probably throw a driving mode in there too.

But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
