SwiftQueue

Stop WordPress doing chores while visitors wait

What it does

WordPress runs scheduled work—emails, backups, publishing—during a visitor's page load. SwiftQueue moves it to a real background worker. What's different: we publish measured benchmarks with the raw data (the request that triggers cron: 820ms -> 8ms; worst 1% during background work: 835ms -> 62ms). We tell small sites they don't need it. The free core is the whole engine, not a trial. Pro adds WooCommerce checkout protection, priority lanes, alerts, and multisite.

WordPress does its chores — emails, backups, scheduled posts — while a visitor waits. SwiftQueue moves that work into the background. Free core, no code.

WordPress saves up its chores — sending emails, publishing scheduled posts, running backups — and does them when somebody visits your site. That somebody waits. SwiftQueue moves the chores into the background, so nobody does. The free core is the whole engine — GPL, forever. New to plugins? The install guide shows every step as a screenshot. Imagine a small shop where one person does everything: serves customers, restocks shelves, does the bookkeeping. The rule the owner set is — do the back-room work whenever a customer walks in. Most customers don't notice, because most of the time there's nothing waiting to be done. But when the bookkeeping has piled up, some unlucky customer stands at…from getswiftqueue.com

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
