Tidalbase – Pair programming platform for solo devs and open source
Even in the age of AI copilots, I still find that hashing out code with other humans is one of the best ways to spark fresh ideas and stay motivated—especially when working on solo projects. I built Tidalbase to help developers connect and pair up for focused, one-hour coding sessions (“tides”) scheduled at set times. The biggest technical challenge was matching people effectively. I drew inspiration from CodersRank, using GitHub activity and project repositories to make skill-based, relevant matches. Like GitHub, Tidalbase is free for open source projects. Would love any feedback or ideas…

ChunkHound, a local-first tool for understanding large codebasesJan 2026 · github.com · ▲114ChunkHound’s goal is simple: local-first codebase intelligence that helps you pull deep, core-dev-level insights on demand, generate always-up-to-date docs, and scale from small repos to enterprise monorepos — while staying free + open source and provider-agnostic (VoyageAI / OpenAI / Qwen3, Anthropic / OpenAI / Gemini / Grok, and more). I’d love your feedback — and if you have, thank you for being part of the journey!

We built an open-source alternative to expensive pair programming apps2025 · github.com · ▲39My friend and I grew frustrated with the high cost of existing pair programming tools, and of course of grainy screens when we used Huddle or similar tools. We believe core developer collaboration shouldn't be locked behind an expensive subscription. So for the past year we spent our nights and weekend building Hopp, an open-source alternative. We would love your feedback and we are here to answer any and all questions.
FleetCode – Open-source UI for running multiple coding agents2025 · github.com · ▲103Hi HN! I've recently been finding productivity in running parallel CLI coding agents(after not believing in them initially). After having to do a ton of git stashing and branch fumbling, I decided I needed to something to more ergonomically run these agents in their own dedicated spaces. I tried a lot of the existing products but they either were too convoluted or flat out didn't work. Some of them also seem to roll their own chat UI which I don't think is the right approach, I wanted to something to lightly wrap my terminal sessions. So I built FleetCode! It uses git worktrees and let's you…
Open-source certificate from GitHub activityJan 2026 · certificate.brendonmatos.com · ▲43I built this as a small side project to learn and experiment, and I ended up with this! I used a subdomain from my personal portfolio, and everything else runs on free tiers. The project uses Nuxt, SVG, Cloudflare Workers, D1 (SQL), KV, Terraform, and some agentic coding with OpenAI Codex and Claude Code. What started as a joke among friends turned into a fun excuse to build something end to end, from zero to production, and to explore a few things I’d never touched before. I’d really appreciate any feedback or suggestions.

Hey HN! Pilots everywhere are required to keep a logbook of all their flying hours, aircraft, airports, and so on. Since I track everything digitally (some people still just use paper logbooks!), I put together some data visualizations and a few 3D globes to show my flying history. This globe is probably my favourite so far: https://jameshard.ing/pilot/globes/all If you’ve got ideas for other graphs or ways to show this kind of data, I’d love to hear them!

I was the main contributor to workout.lol, an open-source fitness app to easily build a workout routine. The project had traction (1.4k GitHub stars, 95 forks, ~20K visits/month), but was eventually sold due to video licensing hurdles. The new owner stopped maintaining it, and the repo went abandoned. Over the next 9 months, I sent 15 emails to try to save it : no replies. Feature requests & issues were ignored. The community was left with a "broken" tool let's say. I couldn't just let it die So I built the new version from scratch with the same open-source spirit, but a better…
