Translix

Real-time screen translation overlay for macOS

Translix launched on May 27, 2026 with 5 votes, #2,008 of 20,538 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches.

What it does

Translo eliminates on-screen translation friction. Instead of copying and switching apps, just drag to select any area. On-device OCR continuously recognizes and overlays translations in real time — right on top of the original text, without ever leaving your current window. Supports 15 languages, multiple engines, global shortcuts, and persistent live monitoring.

I used Translo with my university students, and it made a huge difference when we needed to translate on-screen academic content from foreign software. It saved us the hassle of looking for separate translations, and it was accurate and fast. Highly recommend for any teacher or student working with foreign sources. Hello ! David from Spain here :) I built TransLite because I was tired of breaking my flow every time I needed to translate something before sending it. The usual workflow was: copy → open a browser tab → paste → translate → copy again → paste back. I've created a small macOS menubar app that lets you translate the current clipboard instantly using a keyboard shortcut, in any app. It works locally and supports using your own OpenAI / Claude API key. It’s intentionally simple — no accounts, no tracking, no subscriptions. Happy to answer any questions. Best regards, David

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

  • Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok/s prefill and 1200 tok/s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
