    Minum – A minimal Java web framework2023 · github.com · ▲165

I am happy to announce my minimalist zero-dependency web framework, Minum, is out of beta. http://github.com/byronka/minum You will be hard-pressed to find another modern project as obsessively minimalistic. Other frameworks will claim simplicity and minimalism and then, casually, mention they are built on a multitude of libraries. This follows self-imposed constraints, predicated on a belief that smaller and lighter is long-term better. Caveat emptor: This is a project by and for developers who know and like programming (rather than, let us say, configuring). It is…

    Write Language-agnostic functions with WebAssembly you can use2023 · scale.sh · ▲14

Hey y’all, we’re really excited to share that we’re launching a new free, open source tool called Scale. It’s a highly-performant WebAssembly function runtime that enables composable, language-agnostic software development. TL;DR - Scale allows you to write functions in any language, then use them in any other language. It’s pretty exciting. We currently support Go and Rust, but TypeScript is coming soon and support for a handful of other languages is already in the works. We’d love to hear any feedback you have, so let us know what you think!

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
