Unbagrnd
Free, Fast & Open-source AI-powered background remove
What it does
Unbagrnd is an open-source AI background remover that runs 100% on-device — no cloud, no upload. Built for indie designers, agencies & microstock creators tired of slow APIs and monthly fees. The AI model (ONNX + Rust) processes images locally; only network call is a one-time model download. Batch mode, multiple AI models, MIT-licensed, free forever — 10 or 100k images, no limit. macOS, Windows, Linux.
unbagrnd removes the background from images entirely on your device using on-device AI. No cloud API, no account, no telemetry. Free, open source, cross-platform.
unbagrnd erases the background from any photo — instantly, privately, and entirely on your machine. No cloud API, no account, no upload, ever. Every feature below is designed around one rule: your images never leave your device. Background removal runs through a real neural network via ONNX Runtime, inferred locally — no image, filename, or metadata is ever sent anywhere. MIT-licensed, built on a free, open-source stack — no API keys, no paid tiers, no usage limits. Choose from several background-removal models in Settings, trading off speed vs. accuracy — from a lightweight 43 MB default up. The only network request unbagrnd ever makes is the one-time model download. No analytics, no…from zidniryi.space

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
