Vaxiin – IPMI/iDRAC/OOB software stack
This was submitted before but it didn't seem to get much attention because I don't think the title was very descriptive and the submitter was brand new. I almost didn't click it but once I did I thought the project was pretty awesome and had a lot of promise. Hope this doesn't violate the rules, I have no horse in the game, but the creator is here on the site so hopefully he'll be able to answer your questions.
Vaxiin – IPMI/iDRAC/OOB software stack launched on May 31, 2022 with 8 votes, #1,013 of 2,942 launches that month and more than 50% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 4 years on.
What it does
Vaxiin is an out-of-band automation framework allowing for remote state extraction, human and machine recovery emulation, and failure detection. In a nutshell, it keeps zombies at bay.
Because zombie servers cost you money - they take up power, space and manual labor to recover. This manual labor is like "asking the chef to do the dishes" - not the best use of said chef's time. Instead, we suggest using a dishwasher . Zombies are servers that are reachable out-of-band via their BMC (thus they’re alive), but have no accessible OS running (thus they’re dead). Which makes them “living dead servers”, aka “zombies”. By forcing you to manually recover them from this state, they feed on your brain power. How cunning of them.
