Villagers – A group travel app

I've built Villagers, a group travel app, in an attempt to overcome my own social isolation while working remotely, especially as someone who's friends are now largely parents and much less available for group travel. I find small group travel magical from an interpersonal and experience standpoint but organizing trips is absolutely brutal. With Villagers, I wanted to see if software could overcome some of those planning challenges with financial incentives, social features, and automation -- especially around messaging. In plain words

Villagers is a group travel app designed to simplify the logistics of organizing trips with friends. It automates planning challenges through financial tools, social features, and messaging automation to reduce coordination friction. The app targets remote workers and others seeking to travel in small groups, addressing the difficulty of scheduling trips when friends have competing commitments. The platform includes built-in social verification and community features to facilitate connections among travelers with shared interests.

In the maker’s words, at launch

I've built Villagers, a group travel app, in an attempt to overcome my own social isolation while working remotely, especially as someone who's friends are now largely parents and much less available for group travel. I find small group travel magical from an interpersonal and experience standpoint but organizing trips is absolutely brutal. With Villagers, I wanted to see if software could overcome some of those planning challenges with financial incentives, social features, and automation -- especially around messaging. I love climbing, so I've built a trip to co-work and climb in Red Rocks (Nevada) in November. https://villagersapp.com/t/gkkfv I'm looking for 4-8 high EQ tech folks who'd like to co-work and climb. Everyone's identity will be verified and I'll make sure it's a broad culture fit (i.e. polite, respectful, reasonably extroverted, etc.). We'll keep the costs down to less than $500 per person for 3 nights. For more social proof before you join me on a trip, you can click through my profile on the trip page above to see my LinkedIn work history as an early engineer at Plaid and most recently the founder of a 70+ person company (Tremendous).

  • Hi HN, I built Eigendrum, a web tool that solves the 2D wave equation for arbitrary shapes so you can hear what they sound like as drums. How it works: * Solves -∇²u = λu using finite element analysis (Kφ = λMφ) on a triangle mesh. * Validated to <0.1% error against closed-form solutions for circles (Bessel zeros) and rectangles. * Sound model factors in strike location, Rayleigh damping, and mallet width. * Includes Kac drums I & II to demonstrate identical sound spectra from different geometries. * No frameworks, build steps, or dependencies. Repo and tests:…

Hey HN, I 3d scanned the interior of the Great Pyramid / Khufu's pyramid for the Giza Project this summer and just finished the guided version to share. Would love feedback and/or problems you encounter. I used both a Leica BLK 360 and Matterport Pro 2 to do the scanning and the Matterport SDK for the web viewer. Matterport's web display with Three.js has been the most accessible to a wide audience in the past (previous iterations are in Unity and Unreal, but difficult to download over slower connections). I've been interviewing social studies teachers around the 6th grade level to…

Last time I posted this it didn't garner much interest. There have been lots of improvements and fixes since the last release. Quick list of features: - Workspaces - Tabs - Nested Folders - Lots of context menus - Response history - Plugins - Runs fully in the browser and runs offline if necessary - Chrome and Firefox extension to bypass CORS restrictions - Desktop builds for all platforms - GraphQL support - Import collections exported from Postman and Insomnia - Simple user friendly interface I built this because I love Insomnia but wanted a portable version that I could run in the…

APIs are a little like the open road—always waiting, full of opportunity, but hardly utilized. So here’s America, composed of several APIs that paint a vivid, real-time picture of a good old-fashioned road trip. Get local classifieds and photos. Tune into local radio stations. Talk wit other drivers. And more. Exploring the country by car was an invaluable experience for me during my time in the states. I’ve since moved to Barcelona, and find myself missing the territory. This is my attempt at recreating the magic.
