Voil – Oil.nvim for VSCode
I wrote a vscode extension which allows you to create/rename/move/delete files by editing a text buffer. If you are familiar with oil.nvim, this is similar. In my opinion this is vastly superior to the built-in file manager because it allows you to utilize your existing text-editing muscle memory into file manipulation skills, as opposed to the built-in file explorer which requires mouse or at least memorizing new keyboard shortcuts. There is a video demo on the github page here: https://github.com/ahrm/voil.
Voil – Oil.nvim for VSCode launched on February 1, 2025 with 5 votes and more than 75% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 1 year on.
What it does
Extension for Visual Studio Code - Edit the filesystem like a text buffer.
Youtube video showing voil features: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_L0c7rcYLs&t=5s . Edit file system like a text buffer (similar to oil.nvim ). Create new files/directories by typing their names in the editor (names ending with / are treated as directories). Convert your existing text-editing skills to file system manipulation skills, as opposed of the vscode's default file explorer which requires mouse interaction or memorizing new keybinds (and still is nowhere near as powerful). Demo: https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/2a04bff7-1c10-45ee-bf02-dd814a08a142 There is a hidden ID associated with each file which is how voil determines which file is being e.g. renamed or moved.…from marketplace.visualstudio.com

VS Code extension to edit the filesystem like a text buffer2025 · github.com · ▲67This is a spiritual adaptation of oil.nvim for vscode. The main idea is you edit the filesystem by editing the current directory listing's text buffer. For example, if I want to rename a file, I just rename it in the listing file. This is extremely powerful because it translates all of your text-editing skills immediately into file editing capabilities. Some features: * Create/rename/move/delete files by editing the current directory listing's textbuffer * Filter using glob pattern * Trash and undo support * Works even in remote-ssh workspaces * Works across multiple vscode…
F2 – Cross-Platform CLI Batch Renaming Tool2025 · github.com · ▲122Hey HN! I'm excited to share f2, a command-line tool I built for fast and flexible bulk renaming of files. It's cross-platform (Linux, macOS, Windows), executes a dry-run by default, supports undo, and provides incredible flexibility in file renaming with several built-in variables and Exiftool integration. If you've ever struggled with renaming large batches of files or wished for more control and speed when managing file names, this might be just what you need. I hope you find it useful!

Talanoa▲346Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

I was at FB/Meta from late 2013 to early 2023, mostly working in the compiler/runtime spaces. I got hit in the spring 2023 layoff wave. I immediately started making games in my newfound free time (a lifelong interest, and I even worked in AA(A?) back ca. ~2000), and in October 2023 I stumbled upon the idea of a roguelike pachinko/plinko game inspired by Luck Be A Landlord. Things snowballed quickly, I started talking to publishers, then worked like crazy through all of 2024, almost the hardest I've ever worked in my career, and launched the game in December 2024. It's sold…

i wanted to change the habit of reaching for my phone in the morning and doomscrolling away an hour so i built an app to help me. now i have to literally touch grass before accessing my most distracting apps the app is built in swiftui, uses the screen time apis provided by apple and google vision to recognise grass or not i'd love to get your thoughts on the concept.
