Weekly summary of HN to help fight procrastination
Lately, I've realized I'm spending a lot of time on HN. I've also realized that my brain uses it as a some sort of "escape" route: whenever I'm dealing with something complicated, my brain defaults to Cmd+T + "news..". So I've decided that I need to stop continuously browsing HN. BUT, I still don't want to miss the relevant news, events and discussions. That's why I've built this very simple, statically generated summary of HN posts (by year, month and week): https://hn-summary.github.io/ I think it's also a good way to filter the noise and only focus on those relevant posts…
In plain words
This tool provides weekly summaries of Hacker News posts organized by year, month, and week, designed to help users reduce compulsive browsing while staying informed. Posts are filtered by relevance and grouped into categories like news, dev blogs, and scientific discussions. The statically generated summaries are available on GitHub, making it easy to scan high-impact stories without the time-consuming nature of continuous browsing. Users can suggest category changes through the repository.

In the maker’s words, at launch
Lately, I've realized I'm spending a lot of time on HN. I've also realized that my brain uses it as a some sort of "escape" route: whenever I'm dealing with something complicated, my brain defaults to Cmd+T + "news..". So I've decided that I need to stop continuously browsing HN. BUT, I still don't want to miss the relevant news, events and discussions. That's why I've built this very simple, statically generated summary of HN posts (by year, month and week): https://hn-summary.github.io/ I think it's also a good way to filter the noise and only focus on those relevant posts that had a considerable impact on their given week. I've also grouped the submissions on different (and arbitrary) groups that I consider relevant (for example: News, Dev Blogs, Scientific News, etc). Feel free to suggest changes/additions (it's all in a json file within the repo). I guess the only thing left is block news.ycombinator.com on my /etc/hosts :) [Source] https://github.com/hn-summary/hn-summary.github.io

HN has some of the best discussions on the internet, but I don’t love reading 100 comments to find 10 great insights. This site analyzes top HN threads with LLMs and summarizes the key ideas, disagreements, and resources — while preserving links to the original discussion. Useful for revisiting old threads as well. Updated daily, manual-assisted for quality, no spam, fan project only. Would love thoughts from the community. https://hn-discussions.top
- HHHomeBrew HN – Generate personal context for content ranking2025 · hackernews.coffee · ▲129
TLDR: Build a quick HN profile to see how little context LLMs need to personalise your feed. Rate 30 posts once, get a permanent ranked homepage you can return to. Our goal was to build a tool that allowed us to test a range of "personal contexts" on a very focused everyday use case for us, reading HN! We are exploring use of personal context with LLMs, specifically what kind of data, how much, and with how much additional effort on the user’s part was needed to get decent results. The test tool was a bit of fun on its own so we re-skinned it and decided to post it here. First time posting…
- OWOur weekend project - HN Showcase, browse "Show HN" posts2011 · ▲63
http://www.hnshowcase.com Moses (nnythm) and I browse Hacker News daily. Show HN posts are some of our favorite parts of HN. We wanted to create a way to browse Show HN articles, even those that might not quite make it to the front page. We created http://www.hnshowcase.com last weekend to make discovering projects posted on HN easier. It searches all "Show HN" posts and generates a thumbnail view for each of them. You can sort by submission date, points, and number of comments, and navigate with left/right or j/k keys. We used the following technologies: HN Search API, Pyramid web…

Hey HN. I created this website. https://pj4533.com/hn-overlooked/ It's just a simple web app that discovers overlooked posts on Hacker News. I created it because I was often coming to Hacker News and realizing that I was missing a lot of stuff, and there just didn't seem to be an easy way to surface content that was interesting to me but just didn't bubble up to the top of the page. So I built this. I got the idea a while back, one night when I was recording (you can watch it here, it's pretty funny: https://youtu.be/FDyDb4sX30w?si=E3rby-DaGWA6gy0R ). But I…

History: Last year I had to replace the tire on my bike, and I was surprised how difficult it was to find a suitable new tire. There were a lot of numbers written on the casing, so I googled what they meant. In the end I was successful, but I didn't want to do the same work again for the next bike after I've forgotten the details. So I wrote this website. Technically, the web page is kept very simple, no frameworks, no templates, no website builder. It uses HTML5, CSS and JavaScript, and it privides a responsive layout for mobile usage. I'm happy to receive feedback. If you have tried the…
