Wildex – Pokémon Go for real wildlife
Dear HN, My wife and I both love nature and have always wanted a Pokémon go style app, to collect and learn about different species we find. All the usual species identifying apps were didn’t feel fun enough, so we designed and built one together! Would love for you guys to give it a try and share any thoughts you have.
In plain words
Wildex is a wildlife identification app that combines species collecting with educational content. Users photograph plants and animals they encounter in nature and build a collection while learning about different species. Designed by a couple who found existing identification apps lacking in engagement, it gamifies outdoor exploration for nature enthusiasts and casual hikers who want to make wildlife spotting more interactive and rewarding.

Hi HN, I built Eigendrum, a web tool that solves the 2D wave equation for arbitrary shapes so you can hear what they sound like as drums. How it works: * Solves -∇²u = λu using finite element analysis (Kφ = λMφ) on a triangle mesh. * Validated to <0.1% error against closed-form solutions for circles (Bessel zeros) and rectangles. * Sound model factors in strike location, Rayleigh damping, and mallet width. * Includes Kac drums I & II to demonstrate identical sound spectra from different geometries. * No frameworks, build steps, or dependencies. Repo and tests:…
